Ice physics bug.. i think
In the robotics facility, hitting a wall while sliding on ice obviously stops me, but coming to a dead stop on ice makes my character move at a snail's pace when trying to move again

I was looking yesterday if I was the only one with that. Was hoping that today when I restarted the game the bug goes away but if not and someone has a solution I would appreciate it too.

Sadly I don´t have a salution for you, but the same happened to me. I think it has either to do with enableing/disableing autorun or just bumping into walls.

Same thing happened to me. Bumping into walls would kill my movement and make me move incredibly slow. Respawning worked, but it's still annoying.

This actually happens in the DOS original in DOSBox too, if you're emulating a CPU fast enough to run the game at full speed. It's probably a bug in the original code. In DOSBox you can get around it by slowing the CPU down so the game doesn't reach its full frame rate.

Interestingly it doesn't happen in TFE, so it should be possible to fix here too.

Same happened to me earlier. Respawning didn't do anything as it left me in the exact same place. Didn't get the cleats, so I don't know if that changes anything.

Grabbing the ice cleats fixed the issue for me.

Well yeah, cleats remove the ice physics. Not a 'fix' per se but it'll have to do :steamsad:

Was going to post about this, until I saw this post. I can't even finish the level because I keep getting stuck..

I know exactly where the ice cleats are because I had this exact issue on my Pentium back in the day. Pretty cool in a way that the remaster retains this bug.

Not a bug, you are sliding with no traction. This is how the game perceives ice physics.

You just need to find and use the ice cleats. IIRC you have to jump across a large pit to get to the factory entrance and you can't make the jump without the cleats.

Reduced traction without cleats is obviously intended otherwise the cleats would serve no purpose, but what I doubt is intended is the near zero traction which occurs if at any point you come to a complete stop on ice. It's basically impossible to ever get moving again if this happens and you are essentially stuck. If you were really supposed to have virtually zero traction like this, you wouldn't have the traction to slow down on ice using the movement keys that you do. The fact that in the DOS original you still have enough traction to start moving again from a complete stop as long as the frame rate isn't hitting the limit suggests this is a bug, otherwise the behavior would be consistent regardless of the frame rate. You would have needed a top of the line PC on the day of release to see this behavior by running the game at 70fps. Most computers of the day would have been running in the 30fps range, and those players didn't have the issue of not being to get going again on ice if they happened to come to a complete stop.

TFE appears to have corrected this so you have just as much traction from a complete stop as you do in the DOS original when running below 70fps, which matches the traction you have while in motion.

If you aren't moving at all then yes it is a frame rate issue.

Is there a "noclip" command? I haven't found the cleats and I'm bored of respawning every time I step foot on ice.
This will be patched.
