It would need to have some way to set it to specifically use the MT-32 midi files. Altough this game came out around when General MIDI was hitting off. So it will probably sound better using a SC-55 emulator. Like Roland's own Sound Canvas VA, or using a sc-55 sound font for Virtualmidisynth. But from my experience the Roland emulator does a much better job emulating the SC-55 than using a soundfont. Unfortunately you have to buy the emulator to get it.. or through.. "alternate means"..
I have both an SC-55 and MT-32, and honestly, the soundfont which came with the game sounds like neither. I'm just trying to find a decent soundfont for the game.
But the sound is one area I am disappointed with. I was hoping for an upgrade here, even if it's just midi which uses more than the traditional 16 channels.
EDIT1: Hmm, i actually found a download for the Papelmedia 2007 version:

The link was a bit slow to load though, so you may have to be patient. Grab the one listed in the mirrors section.
EDIT2: Just did some tests on some downloaded DF midis ripped from the game. And the Papelmedia soundfont definitely sounds best for the SW music style. Arachno one does still sound pretty good though, and way better than the SC-55 soundfont.
