Imuse system needs some work.
Here's to hoping they find a fix for the bad note pacing. Any thoughts on this?

Noticed that too, the music sounds genuinely awful and grating.
There's something majorly off with note tempo and tempo consistancy.

Check out DFRetro's video on the game. They bring up the music problem, and even ask NightDive about it. Apparently, the way the system is designed, it was meant to run with the refresh rate of older computers in mind (70 Hz). Most modern displays run at 60 Hz or a rate divisible by it. Since 60 isn't evenly divisible into 70, we get these pacing issues.

That's the gist of it, anyway. Not to mention that NightDive didn't have access to the original Imuse source code, and the way KEX streams audio had to be retooled... Yadda Yadda Yadda.

They may be looking into it. Like I said, here's hoping...

I just switched to the OPL-3 soundtrack. That's what I grew up with anyway, and sounds a lot better to me.

Sadly doesn't change anything about the tempo issues. The entire underlying music system is busted.

I hope at the same time they also do something about the General Midi music, because having to listen to that during the intro made me reconsider my life choices :D

Not gonna lie, i actually like the General MIDI version...but the off-tempo drives me genuinely mad with either version...to the point of actually considering a refund.
30 bucks is a lot for a game that genuinely annoys me :/

Worst case wait a bit, Lucius will add support for the new assets in TFE, then you just use them there without trouble :D

I will buy this game in an instant if the iMUSE timing is fixed. I'm a stickler for this sort of thing and iMUSE deserves to be properly preserved.

Fixed in upcoming patch.

Really? I sure hope that's true!

I'll guess I'll mention it here, but iMUSE (which I think is the culprit) also screws up the general level music. The unique level music begins as it should, but as soon as you encounter enemies, it begins the combat music... but it never stops, just keeps looping and doesn't go back to the regular level music. Which is a real shame, as someone who's loved the level music since the games first release, I wish they nailed it successfully.

Devs could easily fix the music timing issue by implementing their own timing thread for the music. Not everything has to be synchronized with the display. Hell they could even record the original music playing in Dos Box and import those assets into their game engine. What they shipped is just lazy and broken.

Or you could learn what "iMuse" actually is before accusing others of lazyness ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Because what you suggest clearly shows that you don't know what the actual issue is...
