Is the length of the game correct?
I'm going to get it on PS5 and just looked into "HowLongToBeat".
9-15 hours seems kinda lengthy for such a game.

I mean, I'm not complaining, I'm happy if the game is actually that long, even if it's just the 9 hours.
Even some recent metroidvanias which live from backtracking and exploring aren't that long.

Yeah, that seems a bit more realistic. ^^
But I take a wild guess and say, these are mostly done by people who already beaten the game, so they know the ins and outs and where all the secrets are and what not.

Yeah, I would say it's between 6-10 hours, but there are multiple difficulty levels as well.

In saying that, I never actually finished the original.

Depends somewhat on which difficulty you choose and whether or not you're actively trying to find secrets. I managed to beat the original in about 3.5 hours my first time around.

If you watch "let's play videos" you will notice: Almost all old FPS have about 5 - 6 hours of playing time (if you know the ways). Very few games last 8 hours

You can blast through Dark Forces in a few hours if you put it on easy or remember where all the enemies are from back in the day.
It certainly wasn't balanced around the player having full mouse look. I'd recommend playing on hard and taking your time exploring for secrets. Without nostalgia or an appreciation for 90s video game tech, there's not much to this game by today's standards.

If you play it for the first time and also want to find every secret in every level you can make 10+ hours out of it. If you already have played it maybe half that time.

Think that is a nice thing as I feel games take up too much of my time in general and trying to cut back. That is where I have missed the classic days of gaming where it is not 50 or more hours, with some above 100 to finish.

Yeah, there's definitely something to be said for manageable game lengths.

"How long to beat" is often an asininely inaccurate figure. You'll have games where the selected sample act like it has twice as much content as it actually does (Prey 2017 comes to mind, even Cyberpunk 2077 by pre-release interviews) and then samples where people have obviously just blasted through the strictly necessary components ("208 hours" to 100% Skyrim, including over 300 unique locations and around 273 in the base game).

If you go into the game blind and if you try to find the solutions how to progress on your own instead of immediately looking it up in a guide every time you are stuck then, yes, I would say that 10 - 15 hours is realistic, unless you are a 1337 gamer who just bum-rushes everything and figures out every puzzle in seconds.
