Having issues while playing Papa's Freezeria Deluxe? We've put together some tips that may help with various problems that might come up depending on your specific PC hardware:

How to Find the Local Game Files

Some options below may require you to edit the local files that were installed with the game. You can find the local files by opening Steam, going to your Library, right-clicking the game title on the left, and choosing "Manage > Browse local files". (You can also click on the game in your library, then click the Gear/Settings icon and choose "Manage > Browse local files".) This will open the folder where the game is installed on your PC.

How to Find your Saved Data

If you need to access the files for your saved data, they are located in:

C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Roaming\com.flipline.papasfreezeriadeluxe\Local Store\#SharedObjects

The "AppData" folder is sometimes hidden on Windows. If it is, from your Users folder go to View > Options > Change Folder and Search Options, then choose the View tab in that popup, then find the toggle for "Show hidden files, folders, and drives". You should now see the AppData folder, and can dive deeper into it to find the game's save files.

Lagging or slowdown while playing

We've tried to make the game run smoothly on as many devices as possible as-is, but there are some combinations of Windows versions, video cards, drivers, or monitors that may have some issues with lagging or slowdown. Here are some options to try to see if any of these will improve things:

1. Change quality setting or window size

Within the game, click the Gear/Settings icon or press the Escape key to open the App Settings window. You can try different quality settings here, or switch to a windowed mode instead of full-screen at various sizes. If you have a 4K or higher-res monitor, switching to a smaller window may help in that case.

2. Try running the game locally instead of through Steam

In some situations, there may be an issue with Steam or the Steam Overlay that's causing the game to lag. You can try running the game locally instead, to see if that improves things. First go to the folder where the game is installed (see How to Find the Local Game Files above), and then run "Papa's Freezeria Deluxe.exe" right from this folder.

3. Try running the game in compatibility mode

Especially with monitors with a high refresh rate, you may be able to improve performance by running the game in compatibility mode. First go to the folder where the game is installed (see How to Find the Local Game Files above), then right-click on "Papa's Freezeria Deluxe.exe" in this folder. Go to Properties, then click the Compatibility tab in this window. Under Compatibility mode, click the checkbox for "Run this program in compatibility mode for:", and then choose an option from the dropdown ("Windows 7" seems to be a good choice to try), then click Apply. Now when you run the game, it should be running in this compatibility mode.

4. Edit more advanced game settings

The default settings are designed to work on most PCs, but if you're still seeing issues you can try editing some values to see if there's any improvement. First go to the folder where the game is installed (see How to Find the Local Game Files above), then open the file located at META-INF/AIR/application.xml (you can open it in Notepad). There are a few things you can change in this file:

Changing renderMode

Find the line that says

<renderMode>gpu</renderMode>

and change it to:

<renderMode>direct</renderMode>

This may help with lagging issues related to the mouse, though it may cause a drop in performance on 4K monitors.

Changing gpuPreference

The game will try to use a discrete/dedicated GPU/video card (mainly on laptops), but in some situations this could cause some performance issues if Steam or the Steam Overlay are running on a separate/integrated video card instead of also on the same dedicated video card. To use your PC's default behavior for GPU handling, find the line that says

<gpuPreference>discrete</gpuPreference>

and delete that entire line.

(NOTE: If you make changes to anything in this application.xml file, these changes will be overwritten the next time the game downloads an update from Steam, so you may have to make these changes again after any future updates.)

Game doesn't launch or shows an error pop-up

This is usually caused by something going wrong with the installation of the game. First you should verify the integrity of the game files in Steam: Go to your Library in Steam, right-click on the game title on the left, and choose Properties. Click the "Local Files" option on the left, then click "Verify integrity of game files…".

If you still have problems after that, you may want to try uninstalling and reinstalling the game from Steam (your game progress should be saved to Steam Cloud, so in most cases you shouldn't lose any progress by doing this).

Some users mentioned getting errors when installing to their D: drive, so you may also want to try installing to Steam's default location (under C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\etc.) if you're seeing an error when installed elsewhere.

One other issue could be the audio device your PC is using when you launch the game: Some users have reported switching to different speakers/headphones would solve the issue. This may be more of an issue if you're using a DAC/amp for headphones -- try switching to speakers to see if that makes a difference.

Game window disappears when switching to windowed mode instead of full-screen

This should be fixed in the most recent versions, and was originally caused by a high percentage value for monitor scale in Display Settings. If something similar is still happening for anyone, the best solution to fixing this yourself is to first try setting your display scale to 100% for a quick fix. You can also choose to delete your saved data for window settings, then run the game again from the local files for it to generate new window settings with full-screen again:

First go to where the saved data is located (see How to Find your Saved Data above), and delete only the file named "WindowSettings.sol". Now go to where the game is installed locally (see How to Find the Local Game Files above), and run "Papa's Freezeria Deluxe.exe" from this folder. It should now launch in full-screen again, and it created new saved data for running in full-screen, so you can launch through Steam normally in the future.

Game crashes when trying to stream on Discord

This is caused by some recent changes with how Discord captures your screen, and can lead to crashes in a variety of games. To solve this, open Discord settings, choose the "Voice & Video" tab, and uncheck the box marked "Use our advanced technology to capture your screen".

Hmm it was definitely the shirt in the shop that's named "Turtleneck", and either the "Beret" or "Striped Beret" in the shop? And the main Chef (and not the Server) that was wearing it?

Yes, I double checked on the names and purchased/wore them exclusively for the achievement- and it was the Chef not the Server. The only thing was that they weren't in season for the current holiday colors? But outside of that and the server not wearing them, only the chef, I don't see what the issue would be.

Hi, I played a lot of this game up until new years in my save and then I stopped playing for a month and I've opened up my game and all my progress is gone all of a sudden. My steam achievements show that I've reached these holidays etc but in game its almost like I'm back to the beginning...I don't have any of my clothes I've bought or unlocked and none of the furniture either. It's back to maple mornings and how my characters were dressed last for that holiday, its like my save has gone back in time and I don't know why or how to fix it. It was working fine before because as I've said I reached multiple holidays and achievements and it shows through steam. I'm just so confused.

Ugh that's strange, if it rolled back to an earlier point is sounds like it may have been something weird with Steam Cloud where it loaded an older save from the Cloud for some reason. The game just uses Steam's auto-cloud where Steam decides which files to sync and load, so I wonder if it downloaded some old save for some reason and wrote over your current one.

You could also try looking in your save data files (see "How to Find your Save Data" in the FAQ above for the path), and see if you have an "a_backup" or "b_backup" file for the save slot in that folder, and see if they have a newer date. You can rename those files and swap with the main file, but but sure to make copies of the files just in case if you decide to try renaming things.

I was playing papas Freezeria deluxe and I unlocked the New Threads achievement and it’s sticker and hat. (I believe it was the groovy headband) I then restarted the day because I had messed up an order. I went back into the profile that I got that achievement on and I still had the sticker and the achievement on my profile, but the headband was not there. I don’t think there is a way to unlock achievements again, so I am permanently locked out of that hat. Is there a way to fix this?

You only get a sticker when you earn an achievement, they don't give you any clothing items when you earn them. I think there's a groovy headband reward if you master a certain Special Recipe though, did you maybe master the recipe and earn the reward before you quit the workday?

Hi, I have an issue where every time I launch the game it immediately closes again. I have tried to reinstall the game but that didn't work.
