Just a guess here, but this is a UE4 game and they probably updated the engine so its incompatible with windows LTSC builds that dont have proper DX12. We're screwed unless they add a DX11 option

We actually do support DX11. All you have to do is add -dx11 to you launch options. Right click the game in Steam and go to Properties.

See the images here, I have confirmed this works. [imgur.com]

I will speak to the team today to get a launch option added so it askes during launch whether you want to run DX12 or 11.

Hope that helps, cheers!

EDIT:

We updated the launch config of the game to always launch in DX11 so you no longer should have to follow the steps above the game should now just work for you.

yeah, the update also seems to break compatibility with Steam Deck. It will not launch even when using Proton Experimental or Proton 8.05.

It wont work on my steam deck any more. it just keeps downloading Visual C++ Runtime

Same problem, after the update it keeps asking to reinstall C++ Runtime.
I'm playing on Linux with Proton too.

A developer of this app has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Thanks for the response but I still cannot play
-Get a silent crash immediately upon launching
-There are no crash reports or errors in ~\AppData\Local\BabyInYellow\
-I added -dx11 to the steam launch options and nothing changes
-I dont see a popup window asking which direct X version I want to launch with
-I tried disabling steam cloud & deleting my AppData folder

I'm running on Windows 10 LTSC v1809 Build 17763.6189. I have all my windows updates & the latest AMD graphics card updates. This game used to work fine back in February but I cannot even launch it now. Any help would be appreciated, short of asking me to update to windows 11 :P
Sorry, I'll use a translator because I don't speak or write English well.

Perhaps you have the same problem as me with the icu.dll file
I downloaded it from the Internet and just threw it into the game folder and it started running for me after that. You can try it, maybe it will help.

With the -dx11 or without it, it still crashes. Keeps asking to install the VS runtime and afterwards it crashes, even if you install it, it then asks to uninstall it the next time you run the game.
