But cuz we played in order as fans of the series.
I can tell you 5 and 6 have a story toed together, but you don't need to play 5 first however there are a gew bits that are a little better with that knowledge or funny as they reference 5.
If it's purely for the story you could play 5 on the lower difficulty beat it and jump to 6, but I wouldn't grind out 5 fully then 6 unless you really love grind xD
EDF6 is so much better after having played EDF5
It's a direct sequel to EDF5 and there are story elements that reference the events that happened in EDF5.
You could play EDF6 but then a lot of the stuff doesn't make any sense, EDF6 doesn't make a lot of sense as it as already.
It's only when you complete both EDF5 and EDF6 that the story makes some sense.
I'd advise you to just play 6 because chaining together the entirety of EDF 5 before 6 will burn you out - simple as. You can finish 6 and take a breather from playing it and then use the following years while you wait for EDF 7 to play 5.
I highly recommend checking out World Brother 1 or 2 if you enjoy any of the three above.
This is why I suggest 5 before 6. Otherwise there is no reason to play 5 for gun gameplay unless you really end up liking the series but it's also hard to go backwards with these games.
In EDF4.1, if the weapons suck, they will continue to suck. Hence when you get a weapon crate drop in 4.1, you don't feel excited.
In EDF5, weapons have grades and can be upgraded. That weapon crate you got, it could lead to making your weapons good. It often leads to a situation where a lower level weapon that has been upgraded is outright better than a higher level weapon without upgrades.
Due to this change alone, I find it hard to go back to EDF4.1 even though I started playing the series with EDF4.1 on Steam.
