Hell Divers 2 is a foot slogging third person shooter with a focus on the shooting. The main difference between you and another player is going to be weapon selection and support equipment selection etc. Levels are short encounter standard extraction shooter with weekly rewards events kinds of stuff. Difficulty is based on the limited use of the gear you bring to the mission. The fun is in the reward loop of a extraction shooter.

EDF 6 is a class based 3rd person hoard shooter with more emphasis on mobility and terrain exploitation. Classes have completely different play styles depending on the class. Levels are more set piece battles with the need for get gud or die trying mentality. Difficulty is based on your lack of HP that you have to grind for and the need for hard weapons counters for specific situations depending on the mission. The fun is based on overcoming ridiculous impossible odds.

Similar games, but EDF is much better.

Helldivers 1 was almost as decent, but second one lacks fun progression mechanics, whereas EDF is progression - the game.

You have an insane amount of weapons and ways to approach a mission, missions are also not formulaic, sometimes you fight godzilla himself, other times swarm of ants or alien artillery and walking fortresses, each of those require different loadouts.

Classes are much more distinct, one can fly for example while the other can nuke hundreds of enemies at once, and I mean actual nuking, not the little fireworks you see in helldivers.

But yeah, biggest difference is that EDF focuses on fun gameplay and progression, helldivers is formulaic and simple on paper but polished in the few things it does do, but ultimately gets boring after 20 hours, while EDF you can play for 500.

Helldiver 2 gets boring after 20h? Oh boy, you haven't even seen 10% of the game.

As someone with like eighty hours, you see 100% of the game in six hours buddy.
You support humanity in EDF6. In Helldivers 2, you support Sony.
Helldivers 2 and it's community loves "balance" and in constant nerf/buff cycle while EDF says f*ck balance, here's another powerful weapon to kill the bugs

In Helldivers 2 you are just a regular realistic soldier going into a meat grinder with limited ammo, mediocre, and boring weapons. Then optional and rarely used land vehicles with high cooldown.

In EDF you are the God of Destruction. EDF got vertically, this game literally got aircrafts and mechs that you can pilot and go on top of mountains and buildings or giant kaijus.
Vehicles that you can use summon as frequent as you can. Not to mention the overpowered weapons made for you to become a one man army.
To save our mother Earth from any alien attack~
From vicious giant insects who have once again come back~
We'll unleash all our forces, we won't cut them any slack~
The EDF deploys!~
The difference? HD2 was full of hype. HD2 started with 460k people back in Deb of this year. It is currently not even at 30k concurrent players. Don't get me wrong, that's still A LOT of people, but they couldn't even retain 10% of their initial playerbase. That's pretty bad. I could tell at just a glance that HD2 was a short term game, not a long term game ie. not a game that you would probably play for more than 50-60 hours because there are MANY games like it but BETTER! Hell, I had plenty of fun playing Anthem with all of its mistakes because it was a unique playing experience that I really liked. What is unique about HD2 that separates it from the competition? Why would I want to play HD2 over starship troopers? I'm just not seeing the appeal at all.

EDF, on the other hand, has a completely different atmosphere. You're fighting giant hordes of enemies and it's honestly ridiculous. It takes a more comedic tone than a serious one and the weapons set it apart from other games. You have mechs vehicles, lasers, nukes, you name it, it's probably in EDF. Also EDF is VERY mod friendly, so much so, that I'm even able to take mods that I've downloaded and tweak them to suit me better. Most games DON'T do that or allow for that to be the case! In terms of replayability, EDF definitely has most games beat. It also has different difficulties so if you want to turn your brain off, you can. If you would like a bigger challenge you can also do so.

Overall EDF > HD2. HD2 just had more hype and more budget. That's it. It doesn't do anything unique or better than other games other than "graphics." I don't really care that much about graphics and I haven't since around 2014-2015. I came from an era were blocks and cubes were considered good graphics 😂 What matters the most is gameplay and most games have decent graphics. A game doesn't need to look like real life all the time.
Orange and apples.

HD2 also being unmarketable to most of the world further ruined its longevity. That owning it was made into a marketing stunt to a chunk of owners because it was a temporary ownership thing was odious.

EDF 6 is a game for EDF players. If you're not into the EDF series, just play Helldivers 2.

EDF feels more like a corny, arcade shooter with literal hundreds of enemies on screen and hundreds of weapons. HD2 is way more tactical and punishing. I still think EDF is more fun. That's probably an unpopular take. Curious if they improve on the formula with EDF6 at all. Would like to see more limb destruction and gore like in HD2.

The EDF devs do not nerf every gun and fun into the ground patch after patch. Also, no toxic one voter kick system.

it seems you never play inferno or else you would never say HD2 is more tactical.
From what i know apart from the sony bs stunts and the fact HD2 operates like a service and not just a buy and play game, you need friends with HD2 but with EDF its optional.

Helldiver is only online mode, EDF has offline and online mode. The choice is obvious.
