AMD Crash fix guide.
Hi,

Here is a modified copy of a guide that is pinned on EDF Discord channel and was confirmed by many people to fix the problem for them. So credits go to Kabanchick on Discord.
EDIT: He is also here on steam forum.

Here's a working crash fix for AMD users (Nvidia users feel free to test it as well as it fixed Kruul fps drops as a byproduct).

- DO NOT use any external settings like anti-lag, forced vsync, Radeon Chill, etc. Turn everything off in Adrenaline. Check global and EDF6 specific settings.
- Do not use MSI Afterburner/Riva Tuner
- Disable EOS overlay by going to

C:\Program Files (x86)\Epic Games\Epic Online Services\managedArtifacts\98bc04bc842e4906993fd6d6644ffb8d

and rename EOSOverlayRenderer-Win64-Shipping to any other name. That's needed to remedy crashes caused by EOS overlay with DXVK
- Open your game, turn off Anti-Aliasing and set Windowed mode in your graphics settings in game. Restart the game to be sure the changes are applied and it's in windowed mode.
- Download these files: https://fastupload.io/53343d16235f289e (if the link doesn't work then try to get the zip file from EDF discord channel in the pinned message)
- Drop all three: (d3d11.dll dxgi.dll dxvk.conf )in root EDF6 directory. The files should be in the same directory as EDF6.exe. In my case it's D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 6 but you can get there via steam library > right click on the game > Manage > Browse Local Files.
- Make sure it started in the Windowed mode or it will crash. You can change it later to Borderless Window when you confirmed it's working stable.
- Don't change to "Full Screen" and use Borderless instead.
- If the game is crashing delete d3d11.dll dxgi.dll from EDF directory and start from the step 3. Make sure that you configured your dxvk.conf correctly and DO NOT use any overlay software except the steam one.
---------------------------------------------

ALTERNATIVE VERSION if you don't want to download zip files from unknown sources:

- download dxvk-gplasync by yourself: https://gitlab.com/Ph42oN/dxvk-gplasync
(If you still experience issues with crashes try using regular dxvk: https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/releases/tag/v2.4 )
- DO NOT use any external settings like anti-lag, forced vsync, Radeon Chill, etc.
- Disable EOS overlay by going to

C:\Program Files (x86)\Epic Games\Epic Online Services\managedArtifacts\98bc04bc842e4906993fd6d6644ffb8d

and rename EOSOverlayRenderer-Win64-Shipping to any other name. That's needed to remedy crashes caused by EOS overlay with DXVK
- Open your game, turn off Anti-Aliasing and set Windowed mode in your graphics settings in game. Restart the game to be sure the changes are applied and it's in windowed mode.
- Drop d3d11.dll dxgi.dll in root EDF6 directory. The files should be in the same directory as EDF6.exe.
- Ceate dxvk.conf in the same directory with the following parameters:

dxvk.gplAsyncCache=true
dxgi.maxFrameRate=60
dxgi.tearFree=false
dxgi.syncInterval=1

Feel free to experiment with them if you know what you're doing.
- Make sure you actually see extension like EDF6.exe and not just EDF6. You need this to make sure dxvk.conf has correct extension or it won't work.
- In Windows 11: Settings > System > For Developers > File Explorer > tick "Show file extensions". This way you can make sure your config file is not secretly called dxvk.conf.txt.
- DO NOT use any overlay software except the steam one.

-----------------------------------------------------------

On a side note from me: if the game runs super slow at about 20fps then it's probably wrong conf file. You can delete it and make sure you use the one from the link or make sure it's not a txt file.
To make sure it doesn't have wrong extension go to: Settings > System > For Developers > File Explorer > tick "Show file extensions". This way you can make sure your config file is not called dxvk.conf.txt

-------------------------------------------

Please, leave a feedback if the guide has helped you or not. This info may help others.

Is there a reason you're linking to a third party website (that doesn't appear to be working, as it's saying there's an error retrieving the file), rather than the official DXVK github repository? https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk Ignore this, I see from the original post on Discord that they're using DXVK-Gplasync anyway.

Is the dxvk.conf file that you mentioned configured in a specific manner or is it just the file you've used rehosted?

Either way, good to know about how to disable the EoS overlay, I'll give DXVK another spin with it disabled and see how it goes.

EDIT: Yeah I see your other post on the most recently active thread about the config file from the Discord. Guess I'll check and see if the link works from there.

EDIT 2: OK, looks like this works, though strangely I'm getting slowdown in the menus and in game while using borderless fullscreen. Regular fullscreen crashes the game outright as expected, so I'm wondering if maybe having enhanced sync on is the culprit since it runs fine in windowed mode. Will update with further details.

Last Edit: Alright yep, enhanced sync was the culprit. Wasn't sure if it would be included in the above mentioned external settings but kinda figured it might be. I didn't do a full test but I'm pretty confident this might legitimately be the solution, at least for myself.

Try this one: https://file.io/quULNbtbZYk3

Free file sharing websites make problems.

Sorry. I need to work out how to host the file properly.
You can find a working download link on EDF6 discord channel in the pinned message. I will try to fix the link here when I get home. Can’t do it from my phone.

Or if some kind soul could do quicker that would amazing.

AMD posted new drivers just a day or so ago, which might have helped (too soon to say, honestly).

And I will say that the file location of the overlay renderer is a blessing. While I might have found it on my own, seeing it here is great and saved me some disk searching. Thank you.

I'm not prepared to use unknown dlls from a third-party site. With respect, that comes off as really sketchy. Where are they from, what's their origin, etc? I'd look for myself but all posted download links as of this post are down or their contents deleted.

Dude, I'm so tired. Why the hell should I look for guides, look for loopholes, understand hardware just so that a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ $60 game works normally and doesn't crash!!!?!?!?

Of course we shouldn’t and the game should be fixed.
It’s for people who don’t want to hope and wait for a patch.

I never had so badly crashing game on PC yet.

OP should just link dxvk-gplasync and tell us what the conf file contents are instead of re-hosting them.

To those curious, this is the contents of the conf file:

dxvk.gplAsyncCache=true dxgi.maxFrameRate=60 dxgi.tearFree=false dxgi.syncInterval=1
What I wanted to avoid is the silly mistake many people will do of creating a config file that is actually txt but with a hidden extension.

Hopefully the hosting will work now.

Could avoid this by explaining how to show file extensions in file explorer.
in Win10 it's View tab -> ✅File name extensions, under Show/hide category
You’re right. I will add the other option.

I'm +1ing this solution for anyone reading. Had to join the Discord to grab the files but otherwise I ran missions back to back:
32, 49, 82, 117, 124, 146, all missions which I crashed frequently/regularly
with no crashes this time

My bad on not including all of the settings in AMD Adrenaline in the Discord post, I got gimped by character limit in the message there.

For those who wondering you don't have to use dxvk-gplasync, regular dxvk works great too, feel free to experiment with dxvk.conf as well, for example dxvk.gplAsyncCache=true parameter is not essential.

Had a friend who was having issues on his AMD GPU with this game, had him try this and it worked. Thanks a bunch!
