Is it the best EDF game so far ?
I'm pretty casual when it comes to that series.
I own and played most of them, but only for a few hours each : blasting giant ants with a rocket launcher is fun alright, but it gets repetitive quite fast.
The most I stuck around was, I think, the mothership in EDF 5 ? Or maybe the legaly distinct godzilla appearance ? I don't remember which one is farther.

But EDF 6 just clicks for me. I reached mission 46 and I'm not bored yet.
Maybe it's because they kept just enough jank to be an EDF game but it work properly otherwise. Maybe it's because they ensured some more enemy variety earlier in the game.

Maybe it's because they actually tried something story wise too, and while it's not exactly that gripping, well, it's at least something to see through.
Heck, there's even an attempt at having some characters this time around, with that sargent who clearly lost it after all those fights, and that science guy sticking around in his blue outfit no matter what.

I was quite unimpressed at the beginning at didn't really like the setting, but when the story gets in place... oh boy what a ride it was

I'm at mission 95 now and everything just keeps getting crazier. More enemies keep getting introduced and I'm collecting more interesting weapons. The storyline is also well thought-out in this one, compared to the others. Lots of cool monsters in this one for sure.

for me yes 100%

The mission variety for the first half of the game was pretty bad (at mission 90 right now), but the enemy variety is amazing. They just keep pulling out more and more

Huh, I was thinking the opposite. There's a good mix of slower paced stuff with all-out craziness and the enemy variety just shakes things up even further. I've just finished mission 60 but if it continues to get better then that's fantastic.

I think it is the best so far, yes.

aside from some of the weapon type restrictions I think this is a nice improvement over 5, which was generally an improvement over 4.1

Its a great series and I think all of the games are pretty damn good.

I think objectively it is. It has basically everything EDF5 has which is arguably the best up until this point, and more, making EDF5 basically obsolete.

I do think somethings are currently holding the game back, some can be fixed, and others not so much. Too many crashes, it's the least reliable EDF game I have played to date. Hopefully, that can be fixed though so I'm not going to beat on that drum too much.

Next I definitely appreciate the developers coming up with a clever explanation as to why we are constantly revisiting locations just with different monsters. While is was something we just kinda waved away in the past, it's nice to see a narrative explanation that tries to make more sense of it. Unfortunately, it is at the cost of pacing. That constant loop and return to basically a non-mission is just a pace killer. I just don't need a reason to revisit the same tutorial mission 9 separate times and any mission that has no rewards is just a total waste of everybody's time. Those should be skippable cutscenes at best.

Once you look past that its more EDF. Some minor changes to weapons and classes I'm not a fan of, others I am. In the end it's a push. So at the end of the day it's probably the best EDF game so far.

From a gameplay standpoint, I would say so. The classes feel good to play, and that is key to one side of the EDF experience.

However, I think the storytelling of 6 and 5 pales to 4.1. That game had a cinematic feel when presenting you new threats. The closest (so far) this game gets is with the red ants in the crater. They emerge over the lip and become an imposing wall descending upon you. EDF 6 needs more of that.

I am only up to Erginus in EDF 6, so hopefully the future missions give a better feel on the atmosphere front.

Not sure. it think 5 is better. 6 is bit more casual compared to it. Also AI allies in edf6 does not react to player yelling or singing and that is really lame.
