In short, wing diver might be able to equip far more long range weaponry just cause their knife slot weapons are so uncannily good.
There is no "best" build- some guns work better for certain missions.
What enemies are you fighting, are their buildings or flat ground? Will you need to traverse or will it be mostly one space? Light infantry vs heavy units?
It's about learning what guns are good with certain things, the higher the level, generally pretty safe to say it's "better" - the top 5 or so weapons of each category are all amazing, but will all be different too.
I think it's best to experiment with all the different weapons and see what works best for you, and just chose the strongest variant options in that category.
I personally like lock on weapons for flying units
and then bringing the close range lances as they are some of the highest DPS weapons in the game for heavy units.
The faster the energy regen to me the better but flight speed is nice too.
My utility though is Gleipnir- just great overall area damage ( haven't tried the other utility items yet because I love Gleipnir so much )
So Rapier is actually very devastating and it can stagger enemy a lot along with almost instant reload.
Anyways.. there's no "optimal" build, but there is a "universal" build.
For that, you'll want to stick to the (Long Range) Bolt Shooter series (sniper, not the auto-rifle), (Short Range) Spark Whip/Vine series, A Sword (or Grenade when demolition is needed), and the best Plasma Core available at the time.
This is basically a Sniper Rifle + Auto-Shotgun setup.
It also happens that these two weapons have among the best Damage/Kills per Energy Spent. Also, because they're not charged weapons, you can still fire the loaded weapon even when your Plasma Core is in Emergency Recharge.
This setup is also very devastating underground since the Bolt Shooter's shot bounces around after it hits the enemy and ricochets many timed before it stops, striking multiple enemies per shot within confined hallways.
If you need absurdly high DPS though, you can rush in and start swinging your sword as that's the highest DPS you can achieve without consuming your Plasma Core energy. It is also one of your widest AoE options available.
So, while you won't be optimal for any specific mission, you're not exactly under-equipped either as this universal setup allows you to be adequately equipped for every mission.
first for the damage between the MK1 and MK2 if you collect the smme weapon again its gets an upgrade in Damage ROT Charge speed, its the stars next to the stats that shows you how mutch it got better.
a fully upgradet MK1 is better then a none upgradet MK2, if the MK2 gets a upgrade then its better again
Somehow the bog got a big nerf in EDF 6 it needs mutch more energy to charge up, its stupid because it was a low energy mid damage weapon, so i cant play with it like in EDF5 but still one of my go to weapons.
As for weapon slot 1, well its the phalanx the most op CQC weapon in the game, it kills everything in seconds, give it a shot, its need almost no energy to charge up idk why but it is what it is, and does massive damage.
or if you dont like that the dragoon lances are good to but i prefer the phalanx.
as for your support weapon, i like the beam lance just to get that extra single target damage, perfect to destory anchors or big enemys.
sometimes the monster in the long range category can be good
i also play other weapons but not that mutch the pahalnx, bow is my go to setup
1 Phalanx (not the best but good enough for crowds. Best option for melting tanky enemies like armored soldiers, merman, etc)
2 Bolt shooter (both auto and sniper works we just need range really. And Auto is better for clearing out scrubs while sniper is better for tankier enemies)
3 Spear/Laser/ whatever it was called. Damage is also really high for melting single targets. Good option for one shotting pylons and ships. So just fly in from some safe mountain, drop it, and fly out without extra energy spent. I choose this over sword because i can deal with ships first then deal with mobs (rather than the other way around with ships constantly spawning more)
Plasma core is whatever thats best at the time as usual.
That + a nice mirage/phalanx (a staple, honestly) + strong enough fast-swing saber + a good core with good flight time, and I'm zipping around like it's Zone of the Enders, feeling like a monster who was made in a test tube.
Oh it's so cool.
Sabers and Pulsar Spears are OP backpack items.
I usually rolled with a Maglblaster and then brought a higher damage short range weapon like Phalanx/Dragoon Lance or brought a sniper type weapon like Bolt Shooter/MONSTER. Plasma Heavy Cannon has its uses too.
Mind, this was on Hard difficulty.
I can literally finish the entire game with those two
for anti air I use Closed Laser
