EDF as a series, operates in a cycle. The upgrade the system/graphics and then they retell the story. EDF 5 was Earth Getting attacked. EDF6 is the aftermath. EDF 7 will be Earth getting attacked. EDF8 will be the aftermath.
You will always be in the same maps/areas in the games because that is where they are telling the story from... they just update stuff.
