Ok i just fixed it. Go into your task manager and close all epic services that appear. Then try relaunching the game.
You've probably refunded or solved it by now, but I just went through the same thing thing.
I could go through the whole process if needed, but in short what did it for me was:
Stop game through Steam (if applicable)
Stop all Epic processes in Task Manager
Delete the whole Epic Online Services folder in Program Files (x86)
Run the game again
It should re-run the EOS installer but hopefully do it right this time.
If that doesn't work, verify game files to reset the install script (even though that's what started the problem for me) and repeat the above.
At first I thought maybe people were exaggerating or getting unlucky about how much Epic stinks, but here we are.
I've tried uninstall EOS multiple times and reinstalling it. Tried clean install of my video card drivers. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game. Verifying files. Tried closing all non-essential programs and running it. Tried setting it to windowed and 59FPS limit in Nvidia's control panel. Even set it to high priority in windows display settings.
No luck so far.
In my case it appeared to be running in the library until I hit the Stop button. No edf6.exe in Task Manager. Only an instance of Epicwhatever that would stack with each attempt.
Hope something works out for you.
