Is steam monopoly a good thing?
Serious question. Almost nobody uses anything else because everything else is trash comparing to steam.
More stores means more fragmented library, friend list, achievements and community. More logins and more compatibility issues.

Should all other stores close down?

You did not prove him having a 'giant tantrum', neither did you prove of him saying that ALL PC GAMERS are pirates. hence what you said was not true.

Him announcing that he no longer wanted to deal with the PC market because of rampant piracy is a giant tantrum, he could have just said that he wanted to focus on consoles and leave it at that.
I don’t want to defend Epic or actually any multi millionaire here but how simply pointing at piracy as a reason of changing to consoles is a tantrum?
How do you know it was purely emotional decision and not based on any factual information?

It's not ideal for Steam to be the only platform, but competitor offerings have been, inconsequential (EA, Gog, even though Gog is good they are not competing) or actively toxic like Epic (paying to have Kingdom Hearts release way after Epic, when there was already a Steam page).

There is no competitor that is actually competing, and it's not due to a monopoly. The closest thing is maybe Microsoft's game pass, but it's not on the same level.

Xbox PC that offers game pass is so bad.
I think Epic is partly bad because they try to copy ps store and xbox store instead of steam or gog.

And now I have a question for you, why are you so adamantly defending the epic store on a discussion board on steam? You are putting in so much time and effort attempting to refute any claim or criticism at such a rate that you can't be anything but a paid astroturfer or epic employee, even your account that was made in 2023 reflects that with only 2 games on it.

Announcing? He was asked in an interview about their past, so he gave an honest answer about their past. That is far from having a "giant tantrum", for just for simply answering an interview question about their past.

As to the personal attack you did in the end, that is you trying to derail the thread into non constructive fighting.

Pointing out your very strange posting behaviour and questioning it is not a 'personal attack', it says alot how hard you dodge that question.

You're probably an alt account of eisburg or perhaps Timmy Tencent himself.

Steam Monopoly isn't a thing at all according to common sense and the US courts.

How can you tell if he is shilling and not being a devil’s advocate for a healthy discussion?

I personally really like his posts even if I think that Epic is trash.

His entire post history starting from 2022 is nothing but criticizing steam and praising epic, you tell me if that's playing devil's advocate.

Monopoly is always bad for us consumers. However there is no one who wants to put up the cash to make a store that rivals steam's quality.

Well, everybody is allowed to have their opinion.
I like hearing different points of view even if I strongly disagree.
His posts all well written and he doesn't insult anybody.
I think he contributes to a healthy discussion. I personally really like his posts. It also helps me to keep an open mind.

Pretty sure there is this saying of "Steam wins by doing absolutely nothing"

To be fair, Valve doesn't do nothing though.

Honestly Steam having a monopoly not being a bad thing is easy to understand.

Imagine if there was only one restaurant in town, it is clean, and the food is good and decently priced.

Then people try to compete with the restaurant by making rundown dirty trashheaps.

They COULD just make a decent restaurant and compete but no.

You are a consumer and you think it is good for steam to force developers to sell for steam prices everywhere.
I would 100% vote for a fair and equal balance over Epic's strategy of purchasing exclusives so that nobody else can enjoy the game. All day. Every day. Forever.

And how do you think that happened, maybe because Steam uses their clout with developers to prevent them from competing on price with existing games, so Epic's choice to differentiate themselves in the market is limited to other strategies.
