This went on for three months until savvy users discovered it and brought it up publicly, and pushed Valve to react by encrypting local user data.
Feel free to read details at https://metacouncil.com/threads/epic-game-store-spyware-tracking-and-you.766/
Respectfully, I do not trust either the EGS storefront or the EOS telemetry components to hold themselves to collecting legitimate telemetry data.
Neither do a seeming majority of players.
It's not a matter of inconvenience but of principle.
So... what data do they get of a proxy account? Tell me... are you playing unreal engine games or what other games do you lpay? A ton of multiplay games do proxy accounts, do you trust all those other companys? (youre playing ark / warframe ... both had a data breach
)
Nice double standard :D. You dont care about your data. Black desert uses Easy anti cheat, a kernel level anti cheat owned by Epic games.
Your playing on this platform, learn what a proxy account is and how multiplayer games work... did you ever think about how matchmaking systems work? Every multiplayer game uses other servers, except I guess Valve games. Why are you not scared of unreal engine, it always collects data, escpecially if a game crashes?
And yet you play FF14 which requires a mogry station account... wasnt that hard, right?
Im excited for more comments.
The issue isn't just that, the issue with proxy accounts are stated directly from EGS:
"Proxy Epic Accounts can be used in the same way as regular Epic Accounts that have an associated email address and password. For example, if the user later installs the Epic Games Launcher they will be able to login to their Epic Account using their Steam account login credentials."
They are harvesting login information from steam, which is a huge security risk. Sure, you can login to the proxy account and change the credentials again, but the fact you have to do it means epic already succeeded in their goal, which is to download their launcher and log into their store. Its all extremely dangerous and shady which is why people are upset.
Have you ever heard of error 3_553648128 ?
I'm not especially against epic, but i can only see that EOS was somehow forced into steam, preventing me to play because this crap service can't start properly (even with a running epic account on the side), this is blatant incompetence, and i'm quite pissed not being able to play EDF6, even thoo it looks fun.
The very few existing infos about this error didn't helped me to fix it.
Your linked text does not say that at all, you can login with your proxy account, but you will not be able to use EGS unless you add a email/name/password, then it becomes a full epic account. Its also unrelated to EOS.
Why did you miss out 1 very important sentence?
"Proxy Epic Accounts can be used in the same way as regular Epic Accounts that have an associated email address and password. For example, if the user later installs the Epic Games Launcher they will be able to login to their Epic Account using their Steam account login credentials. At that time, the user will be asked to register an email address and set a password for their account. "
And no, Epic does not get any important Steam data, you just get linked to a proxy epic acount, so that they can matchmake you with other players. Epic gets pretty much no important data via a steam link. They probably only get your steam ID/token. They only get to know which Steam user you are and check via the steam api if youre real (steam login), they know nothing about you except your public steam profile data.
Dont you think it would be bad if Steam would share important data with a simple link with their own API?
Did you miss out on my 1 very important PARAGRAPH?
"Sure, you can login to the proxy account and change the credentials again, but the fact you have to do it means epic already succeeded in their goal, which is to download their launcher and log into their store."
And anyway, if it does use the steam api to login, I don't know that. They don't tell me it does that. So as far as I'm concerned. Its a security risk. End of discussion. Have a nice day.
You don't even own the game, why are you throating them so hard, its pathetic.
You download EOS not EGS. Thats what every game with EOS does. You do not login into their store, you cant even do that without adding extra information as already mentioned.
? It gives you 2 options ingame, login with your EGS account or create a new (proxy) account without adding any email/password which gets linked to your steam account (steam api). Either you give them your important data or you dont.
You can read Steams documentation to check which data the Steam API shares. If they would share any important data, it would be a security risk on Steam side... because Steam shares your lame "data".
I really dont see how its a security risk, its not different than installing any other game on steam, they dont get more data than any other game. Whatever game youre playing today, it has access to the same data. If you think this is a security risk, then every game installed on Steam is a security risk.
OP I think you're gonna have to live with the reviews.
LOL
You can not unlink via steam or in game.
