But its not a budget series, like at all
It absolutely is. Let's not kid ourselves. That's how the franchise started and that's what the franchise will always be. I'll still be buying them full price for me and my friends regardless because I am ridiculously hopeless.
you think any PC would do anything other than become a dang shrapnel bomb in your room if it ran that kinda insanity on modern graphics?
its INTENTIONALLY lower quality...you really dont understand that this "lower quality" was still so much GFX strain it could make a PS4 Pro chug at times on EDF 4.1 right? yeah it chugged less and less hard than a base PS4 but it still chugged!
besides, if you really need proof of this...go play EDF Iron Rain..it uses modern visuals and has FAR less happening on-screen as a result including far fewer enemies
so you can have your modern visuals... or you can have extremely insane and chaotic fun, but this is one game series where you cant have both due to the technical side of things
Its heart is a budget title but i would argue it hasn't been a budget title to produce since 2025 came out.
It started as part of the simple 2000 series, which were literally budget titles, however, they basically shed the factual low budget of the game dev process when they rebooted the game with 2017.
They kept the janky future retro look because it helps the game... the game would actually look worse with better graphics, its good that it looks old and new at the same time. We see in the spinnoffs that do look better that they end up looking worse because the environments are smaller and there are less enemies on screen at once.
But yeah, EDF's heart is a budget title but it is in fact no longer a budget series and hasn't been since i was a kid (and i'm old now)
$45 was about what I was willing to pay for the game since I never finished 4.1 or 5, I would have waited on a sale otherwise while I continued playing through those, as I wouldn't have expected friends to all pick it up to play together above that price. Does steam still allow games to sell as 4 packs? I imagine that would be popular on EDF with a decent discount.
This
Iron Rain isnt as bad as people make it out to be. Prowl Rider was super fun to play as, but it does have its faults don't get me wrong.
