So, you're lying.

Hololive wasn't really much of a thing yet when 5 came out though.
Up until now EDF's only ever had those maid anime characters as the decoys.
Having vtuber ones are new to the series
friends, they're getting shot up regardless, heck most of us don't even use the decoys because they aren't super reliable even when they work
does the skin on the thing meant to catch bullets really matter so much that it affects your overall enjoyment? for that matter wouldn't you want the thing meant to get hit to be the 1s you don't like as much instead of the 1s you're (apparently oddly devoted) fans of?
My dude(or dudette, I dunno), I'm pretty sure the decoys in EDF 6 undress when shot at. Of course people are gonna want their favorites in that case.
Me personally, I'm just bummed I can't get all of them. Feels genuinely weird that they're region-locked. What's the point? Oh no, the HoloJP girls only have japanese lines, so the western fans won't enjoy that... I really hope that's not the argument informing that decision, because that's downright asinine.
1st is correct
I mean I guess that's 1 way to get people interested in buying and using them, still don't get it personally especially since we're talking about a game where 1/2 the things where a decoy would be remotely worth using will either drown it in blinding light or completely destroy it in a matter of seconds
anybody buying for that purpose would basically be paying money for something just to use it in situations where it's arguably the least useful because otherwise it's gone before they even really notice, which... I mean it's your money you do you but I know I'd be annoyed if I got into an online lobby and somebody's sitting off in a corner trying to get something to shoot a cartoon doll just enough for them to enjoy staring at it instead of helping
as for the regional/localization thing... they're selling a product, they're going to go with what their marketing teams say each area is likely to buy
So you're saying that they would sell fewer copies by... Including MORE things? That they would get fewer people to buy EDF 6 because they had all 6 Hololive decoys in both the JP and EN versions?
I highly doubt the majority of people would be sitting in a corner somewhere waiting for aliens to shoot the clothes off their decoys, but I can absolutely understand the appeal, and the comedic value of their favorite character distracting the giant frog dudes, and having their clothes blown off is just funny to me. In case you're wondering, I do not jack off to the EDF decoys... That's not at all what I am insinuating.
no, I'm saying they're likely making this decision based on a marketing team's suggestions and marketing teams tend to be...illogical is the nicest way I can say it, for instance just about every time a game series underwent a sudden out of nowhere genre change so they could shoehorn in whatever the current fad genre is
edf for the most part is good about avoiding some of this (with the exception of the mess that was iron rain and their attempt to appeal to a grim and gritty more graphics focused audience), the devs have realized that what they have works and that people will absolutely buy new iterations where the changes are maybe a few different enemies, more story, and a couple mechanics differences instead of them needing to make sweeping changes every game
even with that they do still have a clear disconnect from their audience on some matters and with that disconnect it becomes more likely that they can be swayed into strange choices from the people they do listen to
I can very easily see this being the case, it doesn't really need to be "well we'll sell more if we cut this and give something they're more likely to know there", it could easily be "well we're expecting that area to be mostly english speaking so maybe just give them english speaking decoy character voices so we don't have to deal with complaints about why the japanese decoy character voices aren't translated"
Ah okay, so you're at least mostly in agreement with me... I think. I don't want to presume.
Like I said, I'm just bummed that my copy of the game will always be missing 3 decoys(I know that sounds kinda dumb, but if I'm a fan of those three girls, it's quite disappointing)
No matter what I do, I will never have all 6 holodecoys.
That and I on principle absolutely despise regional/location based exclusive content. It's incredibly divisive and predatory, like the worst kind of exploiting FOMO.
Phase Connect is better.
