Is there any other way to play multiplayer besides Mass Races?

So is there any way to race other people (besides friends) that isn't a Mass Race? Also I don't mean 1 v 1 I'm talking normal races with like 8 - 10 racers ect, is there races/events like that?

I haven't been able to find any myself. Me and my cousin can only do 1v1 versus racing (other than mass races) Really weird design if that is the only way

Wow really? Well that's disappointing then, was gonna buy one for my friend but if it's going to be just us then I guess not. Do you race against bots at least with your friend(s)?

I thought the multiplayer mode was just 1 v 1s? Also with friends can you both join multiplayer as well against other randos?

what free mode? all i see is showdown, bmx freestyle ,tricks battle and mass race.

You can make teams and compete vs other teams or random players. I am not in any team so I don't know the alternative modes and competing options inside teams.

its loaded with players. its actually quite crazy how much players are on the map. (its crossplay)

Those aren't real live players, they're player ghosts. The only time it's an actual real player, in real time, is when they've got a gold icon not a white one.

well not an issue since they are real when it matters on mass race and pvp modes. however the whole ghost thing reminds me of how ssx handled multiplayer, everything was just competeing against peoples best scores/races through a ghost/leaderboard system. i could imagine the server would go to ♥♥♥♥ if every single player on the map was connected in real time.
