Apparently the year 1 pass is cosmetics and travel stuff that isn't worth getting
I personally played this game back in beta and liked it but didn't love it. I played descenders beforehand and this game just didn't compare at all because descenders gives you true free range of motion on the bike
Anyway tangent aside, on sale this game is definitely worth it. I'd say grab the base and then get the DLC in the future on sale if you enjoy it. If money is no concern then online says 360 version gets you everything you need
To customize/do events etc even when not doing multiplayer you need an online connection. So yes you can do solo stuff, but you need Internet
After searching a lot about the extra content I decided to go with standard version and I'm happy about my choice.
BMX and Skate careers are short and they are all tricks. Even BMX career doesn't have races in it, just tricks. That's lazy development.
Plus complete edition doesnt include the new longboard, but you can try it in user made events (and that works also in standard edition).
If you like races more: get standard (though year 1 pass (included in complete ed.) has toy race events: Snowmobile Freestyle 10 events, Jumbobike 10 events)
If you like tricks more or both: then complete edition on sale might be for you
Bike Race: events 30, big events 5
Bike Tricks: events 19, big events: 4
Snow Race: events 18, big events 4
Snow Tricks: events 33, big events 5
Air: events 29, big events 4
DLC sports:
BMX Tricks (Year 1 pass): events 15, big events 2
Skate Tricks (Skate add-on): events 13, big events 1
Longboard Races (Year 3 pass): 10 events
DLC toys:
Snowmobile Freestyle (Year 1 pass): 10 events
Jumbobike (Year 1 pass): 10 events
DLC Ridge Ultimate:
8 events
The solo experience is pretty abysmal, but can be done through zen mode. On sale, I'd say yeah get the complete. Try to get the most bang for your buck because this game will nickel and dime you if you want to enjoy it in it's entirety. I've spent far too much money getting all the DLC.
I recommend standard version if you have never played the game before (beta). How many times have gamers bought full versions with all the DLC and not even finished the base game before they start playing some other game and never look back? Also the controls in this game takes a learning period and many have complained about them since the launch. But if you have the money to throw around and are certain you want it all and like tricks more than races, then get the complete ed.
I guess I should have been way more clear. What I think I meant is that game was touted as an MMO, but you really only ever actually race against bots unless you do mass races or do the multiplayer modes. So you are really left being solo most of the time, which to me felt kinda lonely and lame. That’s why they give you the option to populate the map with bots riding all over the place lol. But yeah, I guess it’s not an abysmal experience, it’s just lonely. I still enjoy the game for what it is, you just have to give up your wallet to enjoy everything.
however you can race with mountain bikes with your friends with the standard edition, it is fun.
