Final DOOM

Final DOOM

To play Final Doom via Zandronum I must launch through The Ultimate Doom.
What about those who want to use Zandronum for Final Doom, yet don't have a copy of The Ultimate Doom?
Or... am I missing something which would negate this assumed library issue?

If I try to run Final Doom through its own launcher, it doesn't recognise Zandronum. Yet I played the previous three Doom titles through their own launchers and all presented a Zandronum-enhanced version.

I was originally going post to ask why the final installment of the trad' Doom games wasn't recognising Zandronum being present.

It was only when I returned to the previous titles in turn - checking if they all launched with Zandronum's features - I found The Ultimate Doom launcher included the two Final Doom WADs.

I'm happy I found a solution, but it's all a bit odd.

I can't really understand what you're saying here.

Are you saying that somehow Steam installed Zandronum in place of DOSBox?

If you want to use Zandronum, can't you just copy and paste it to your Doom installs and rename Zandronum.EXE to DOSBOX.EXE and run it from there?

Why are you even using Zandronum for single player anyways? Zandronum is too far behind compared to GZDoom and the only thing Zandronum has over that is better multiplayer because it was based on Skulltag.
No, I installed Zandronum for all titles a while back.

I stopped my Doom-marathon when I previously came across the same problem; that the last game only launched "vanilla".

The reason I use Zandronum is not for multiplayer. It's for the visuals and mouse-look; with the annoying forward and back motion removed and replaced. I'm not bothered with alternatives that include even more visual effects. There is only much you can add before the billboard character sprites begin to look more and more out of place. Some purists may even consider using ANY acceleration as ruining the Doom experience.

Recently I've been needing a dumb shooter to play, and returned to the original Doom titles to finish what I began. That's when I remembered why I hadn't yet played Final Doom. It was only upon looking into my issue, that I found I could acess the Zandronum version through The Ultimate Doom, yet not from its own launcher, as with the previous 3 titles.
