How to make the game less pixelated?
The steam version of Doom is great in that it stays true to the original classic Doom experience, which is how I like it. However, it's extremely pixelated. Is there a way to make it less so without having to install mods or any other funny business?

the only way I know to get it "less pixelated" is to run the game with a source port like GZDoom or ZDoom unfortunately :/
Try this: https://sourceforge.net/projects/dooms-19-winx64/ ; it's only 4MB or less.

If it works then copy the DOOM.WAD file it its folder. :steamhappy:

I used GZDoom, makes the game more crisp and clear but doesn't add a bunch of new features that drastically change the way doom was back in the 90s

take a look at my screenshots to see how doom looks when run in GZDoom

crispy doom is a good example of an source port that are close to "vanilla" but higher resolution, that will make the game looking less pixelated at distance

+1 for crispy doom, it is a good medium between the original look and the modern look of gzdoom. Also prboom is worth checking out as well. It has almost identical visuals to crispy doom but it is much more mod friendly

You may have to do a few tweats, but it's cool so far - https://www.moddb.com/mods/lowpoly-doom-lite-10/addons/doom-lowpoly-mod-v2
