where to make a sawmill?

i'm up to the point where I'm told to make a sawmill. I've repeated the game several times with probably my best run going to a few levels after the first boss.

i opened up roads to the monk and demon that tells what monsters are attacking each day

i occasionally get close to opening up another path but not quite yet.

but in the meantime, i can't seem to get to the point to make a sawmill. i don't see a big open spot. is it that i should destroy some previous building? if so how do i destroy it?

or is it that the sawmill is to be placed somewhere in the upper right area, where i haven't accessed yet?

Edit: Ok I was expanding up and above the building area but didn't realize there are still expansions in the building area also. I now have the plot unlocked for some additional large and small buildings.

the sawmill is a city building so if you dont have a large space to build it then you wont be able to until you unlock more zones.

I had the same problem. you can build new paths next to your castle using the path building icon (the wagon) on the top right corner. this will open up new build spots where you can place the sawmill.
