Tap or mining?

What should be upgraded first? Since it's an idler i'd suppose mining but tap on the other hand allows one to rush more. Any help?

Do you want to idle, or do you want to be active? Mining if you want to idle, tap if you want to be active. It's all up to how you want to play.

I've found that tap's useful if you want to manually speed through prestiges later on, but once you're taking more than one click per block it's better to switch to mining. It's also very much an idle game (due to the forge mechanic), so bear that in mind as well - 'rushing' mine levels will only get you so far in terms of achievements.

Also it seems (to me at least) that you only get 1 ore/gemstone per block you manually break.. whereas your miners seem to get more. If resources are your goal it is best to let them do the work if this is in fact the case. Someone correct me if I am wrong on the amount you get when manually clicking.

If you read the flavour text on the miners you'll find that some have a specific chance for more ore/gems etc. It makes which ones you unlock/upgrade in which order slightly tactical, although not by huge amounts unless you're attempting to complete achievements/max upgrades as fast as possible.

I tend to keep them equal. You can only click so far, and I use the clicking to rush to higher levels after prestige. As mentioned before, once it starts taking more than a couple of clicks, even when using some of the miners that hit multiple blocks, then the mining is more efficient without spending everything. So I tend to upgrade everything equally.

I'm lazy - if I'm not going to click, I don't upgrade tap because I can save the upgrades for easy 'buy x upgrade' daily/weekly quests lol
