This game is basically for the people that read the book. This is the game for the people that want to relive the experience of that book.
People constantly complain, but still play this game because this is practically a monopoly of three kingdom.
Think of NBA 2k series. People complain a lot, but they still come back to buy some more. 2K does some undesirable stuff, but fans have no other choice, so they keep coming back.
It's the only publisher making ROTK now, same with Nobunaga Ambitions.
It's a game for those who loved the novel or the drama or the chinese era of the game.
We would eat anything that is about this novel/drama/era we love. And then complain. And then buy again because we're still hungry.
^^^ this
There's barely any other games like this. And they are flawed as well.
Many fans continue to buy Koei's historical sim game even if they're not good in the hope that they will use the money in the future to make a decent one. And not all entries are bad. The latest Nobunaga Ambition game is decent. In fact the Nobunaga series has generally been okay for me, since Iron Triangle all the successors are mostly fine except that broken sengoku risshiden. As for rtk, I thought 14 was okay. Not as good as the ps2 games but it was acceptable. This however, is still crap at its current state, need some work, mostly AI fixing.
So it is a basically a deeper, richer and more immersive title then the others
The game is hated and reviewed incorrectly because people can not get over the feelings they have about what the game should be vs what the game is
Whenever the difference of opinion happens its a game or design flaw, in reality its someone being a baby and not sticking to facts
Here are the facts, its a very well done game with a lot of options and the replay value is strong just in the ability to trigger a historical event or let it pass ( many other reasons exist but no play through will be alike with this feature)
The book is decent, its more impressive reading it at 15 then at 46, but it is a decent book.
If you read the book youll have to play the game
The one thing you hit on is the passion, this game series evokes a lot of passion because people like myself started playing 35 years ago and have played every iteration.
I think this is the best one they have made since the original 8, so you can imagine how bummed ive been with all the others since then.
Please give me an example. I can't think of one game where you couldn't automatically move supplies around pretty instantly and easily where it was a menu based map you're working with. Also, the limits of what a city can hold in XIV are ultra restricted. If the town is too small, the extra supplies are just thrown away. Without those supplies, you can't large very large expeditions to break out of your positions.
River battle was fun in XIV. The only thing I find a little unrealistic is I can march for a year without getting tired which I think they should have added that to the morale (fatique system). The again, nobody really battle the North that much unlike the Central Plain where there is battle every single month.
Aside from that, this game is above average, not best, not worst. With DLC or PUK, it may becoming a better one, plotting and diplomacy is very weak, not seeing any differences.
Some of us just like to buy the game as it does bring back old times playing. I would wish they would mix the Legend of game and Tactics into their battle and gameplay.
