8 remake compared to 14
Ok, after playing 8 remake for about 9 hours, i think i kinda get the hang of the gameplay loop, and I must say, it is completely different game to 14.

I mean, the troop and supply management is the same, the in battle grid system is similar. and some of the diplomacy and recruitment system is the same, but thats where the similarities end.

I confess i never really played any officer ROTK game before, so this is my first deep dive and to be honest im not sure i was going to like it. I tried 13 but the real time battle put me off immediately and i never picked it up again, so I go into this with tempered expectations.

The game itself though, in my opinion, is first and foremost, an RPG. sure it has few strategy traits added, but the main focus is your characters journey and interaction with other officers and factions. Even when playing as a ruler, its still mainly focus on building relationships with officers. It has a whole relationship tree ffs.

In contrast, 14 feels alot less personal, and more standard old school grand strategy where you see everything in big picture, and battle, by far is the main focus. Literally almost everything you do is building up for battles.

Im more of a strategy person so generally i prefer 14 style of gameplay, however surprisingly after getting deep into my 1st campaign, i felt that "just one more turn before i go to bed" feeling. Thats when i know im hooked.

It is by no mean perfect. AI is dumb, stupid decision to only allow adjacent cities to attack, and by far the thing i miss the most is the overworld map.

But beyond that, there are certainly things to enjoy here, for me at least, there are enough things to micromanage that i can see myself playing this for few hundred hours at least.

That is correct.

If you are playing this game to "win", this game will probably provide you very bland and shallow gameplay as a ruler, or incredible amount of frustration as an officer.

However, if you go with the flow with the way game world unfolds, and just go with your own head cannon of the life of your character, then there's very few RPGs that can match the amount of different role playing you can do. Losing means nothing in this game, because usually you get recruited by enemy faction.

I hope people play the game with less of winning mindset, but role-playing mindset of living life in 3 kingdom time period. It will be a lot more enjoyable if you do so.
You might enjoy 13 actually if you like 14 and this.
