Will the Multi-Commander Control return?
I loved having the ability to control multiple people in ROTK 7 and 8 and having my officers live their lives as they partake in the 3 Kingdoms Era. My hope is that we get that feature returning in the remake as I love it and I really want it to be a thing again.

Same here. Was so awesome playing 8 with a friend... Starting as free officers and becoming a minor force together... Endless possibilities...

It is already confirmed that won't be the case. There's another post with that interview.

Damn, there goes about 99% of my interest in this remake because that was one thing I loved in 8 and was really cool to be able to control multiple officers myself and if it remains the same, I don't even want them to remake IX because good god that was fun being able to use Action Replay to give myself infinite troops in two cities and have two forces control the cities and constantly fight each other trying to see who could win.

Found it. What a stupid decision! I hope they are taking more time to implement it or have it as a DLC.

Sounds unlikely to be the case.

The way they are making the game makes it impossible to handle multiple characters. Their combat for example seems to add multiple characters into single unit. If you are controlling multiple characters, it will be impossible for the system to decide who gets to control the unit if they are both in the same unit.

KOEI is adding lots of their "new" bad ideas to this remake. I'm still gonna get it since it's still ROTK8, and there isn't much replacement for it, but I'm adjusting my expectation properly.

I would get it, but I fully expect the game to be 60 for the remake (or probably even jumped up to 70) with some DLC so I'll probably just wait for a large enough sale for the game before I decide to pick it up because I wanted ROTK 8 but it seems that I'm not going to be getting it for a while and since they won't translate the versions that exist on Steam already, this is the only way to experience it since I don't believe anyone even made a fan patch for ROTK 8.

I don't think units would cause any problem. That's simple and shouldn't be an issue or argument. Whoever leads the unit in combat will controll it, so it would be either a player or the AI if an AI officer is the one leading it.

The rest of the game seems to be like the old RTK 8, I don't see any issues at all in a turnbased game.

Well I highly doubt that they added a system that completely takes control away from player. Imagine playing a game in battle where you have no unit to control and you just watch AI playing the game by itself. That makes terribly boring game.

Look at the game info, and I think it is pretty clear that these devs are quite player-centric with their game design approach. It was clear in ROTK13 as well. Players had more gameplay options than AI. That is quite different approach compared to original ROTK8, where AI is also on equal footing as player, and had all the gameplay options. Which makes it difficult to implement multiple character controls as a system.

TBH, I feel this makes it inadequate (IMO) because in the original, they had it where each character could command their own unit so when battles came, you just controlled that unit while in combat. They did it for 7 and 8 on the PS2 and it was a blast trying to coordinate my unit's movements and tactics to match my group so that way we could claim victory or mitigate our losses. Seeing that they are making it a giant army (like ROTK 9) but still not letting players control multiple characters feels like a part that I loved from the originals aren't going to exist. I was hyped for this remake because i assumed it was just going to be ROTK 8 remade in a modern engine, but if it's just going to be ROTK 13/14 but calling itself ROTK 8 Remake, I'm okay with skipping it.

Yup I agree, it is not looking like they are making ROTK8 Remake. They are making turn based combat version of ROTK13.

As long as they don't mess up the part where I can play as advisor role, I will still get the game. ROTK8 was the only game that allowed me to role play as an strategist like Zhuge Liang.

However, my expected is WELL adjusted now. Whatever talent KOEI used to have, it appears they are long gone, or age has caught up with them and they are no longer thinking straight.

I remember doing that in 7, 7 and 8 were very similar with one major difference 8 added was the ability to form and be in a Warband. In 7 you either had to be under the employ of an existing faction or undergo a bunch of plans and wiles to overthrow the Governor of the city you were in and become a Ruler of a new faction with all the officers in the city who weren't too loyal to their old lord and good friends with you. I think 8 also added the ability to be Blood Brothers since in 7 I believe it was exclusive to if you were playing one of the 3 Brothers (Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, and Liu Bei) I saw that someone is making an ROTK 8 and 9 ENG patch for the steam version so I might just see how that patch is and then just buy the original versions and if they do let you be an individual officer and can even be other ranks like Marshal, General, Advisor, Governor, or Viceroy, it will be fun to play this in a few years once it's gone on sale.

Oh please do share info regarding the translation work. I'm quite interested in that as well.

I had to google it, you can find it on the Steam Discussions for the ROTK 8 original page. The only bad part is that it's one beta post back in 2020 and then the creator has about 1 post for other ROTK games on Steam. The translations probably aren't anywhere near complete, but they are probably still a bit helpful.

Oh it is incomplete, that's a shame.

In that case I will stick to my old version of ROTK8. I just wanted steam version so I don't have to insert CDs.

That's what I plan on doing. It seems it would be more prudent for me to just get a PS2 and a copy of it rather than waiting on an update from a project that hasn't seen an update in over 3 years.
