Unfortunatelly a huge disappointment
The game looks and feels good, but that's about it, why not make a movie or something, because the controls for an RTS are horrible. It screams controller optimized, and most of the difficulty comes from wrestling with the game to make it do what you want. The mechanics are extremely simplistic, rock paper scissors could be fine but it is implemented in such a bad way that you can just use the same group again and again (when you even get to have the freedom to), hive defenses just add more HP and damage in the simplest way, but still can only delay. The missions are too disconnected, having to search for stuff is extremely frustrating, the game quickly (well after a few hours) becomes boring and tedious.
I've expected more control over the hives, larger armies, larger battles, more variety in units and objectives, but I feel like I'm doing the same thing over and over again with minor variance.

I remember being excited for this game when it was announced. Despite following it on Steam, I was never informed it was going to be an RTS game by the platform till checking the steam page again today. Massive disappointment to find out this is some kind of war game and not an actual ant simulation game.

How did you miss that? The big trailer showed that clearly. I wasn't even following this and I knew that couple months ago.

Why not play with a controller?

The Empires of the ants game from 2000 never leaves my hard drive, it's a great colony sim with huge depth to it, you can build a base and fight against different opponents in differents maps and settings it is one of my prefered games of all times and the graphics are still holding well, sadly there is this trend in gaming where everything gets dumbed down and they consider it a "modern" thing to do.

I really need to agree, if you're gonna make a game with ants you need to highlight the core of ant tasks, which involves being in the colony, foraging for food and even fighting rival colonies.
I was very excited when I first saw it on Steam and wishlisted thinking it was going to be a modernised Sim Ant, unfortunately I was quite wrong. Well at least graphically it looks nice but that seems to be what modern gaming is turning into, looks nice but lacks depth. Your ant can't do anything except move around and throw commands.
You can use a controller

What was your favorite unit from the original game?
Yes lacking depth. It needs a 4x mode with added gameplay.

I realy wished we get a more Sim ANT experience with real strategy. Classic RTS is just the same as always with different skin. I realy wanted more depth from this game. But yeah its a personal thing......

But who came up with the idea that you CANT enter your own Anthill? I mean even personal things aside.... you make a RTS and cant enter your base? Who came up with the Idea that would be a cool feature if you cant enter your base?

And this is the exciting part when a intruder invades the nest and threatening the larvas. But well it was cool to simply not do this?
Please be honest and tell us you didnt have the funds to make the game proper. But i will never belive that it was considered a good design. :(

Not here to be trolling around, I was interested in this game as a break from another game that I would recommend from your statement. Give Empires of the Underground a look over.

Empires of the Undergrowth also sort of fails as an ant-sim game. It's too fast paced and 'gamey'.
You're not really supposed to have a 'proper ant nest' in that game.

its a lot closer to the mark and you do have like a nest it just means nothing lol. it would be cool to see a home base type of nest and thats how you pgrade your ants and abilites ling term. but sadly neither of these games seem to be making changes anytime soon.

id still suggest undergrowth, games fun story line is well done too. but it was kinda hard ngl.

I just wish it had actual mechanics for workers, like how Sim Ant or the original Empire of the Ants games.
