Hi Appiodici,
Have you seen many bugs? (I'm obviously not talking about insect but program falts here). If so have you reported them somewhere?
Feel free to report them all so we can fix them ASAP. I’m not seeing many bug reports (there are issues, but most are not bugs).
Also, you are all welcomed on our official discord server to talk with other players to have a better understanding of what the game has to offer and if this game is for you or not. You can also check out Youtube and Twitch. (https://discord.gg/empireants)
I really like it so far.
I think the first thing to understand is that this is not a hardcore game and its not trying to be a hardcore game and that is fine. This game is aiming for a more relaxed play style.
There are so many intense RTS experiences out there and its great that we get to see other games stepping into the genre and offering something lighter for players like me who don't enjoy your typical RTS.
First and foremost its a visually impressive game. If you like insects / ants then its immediately fun to play. Everything looks incredibly realistic and the performance is fantastic and Its one of the least demanding UE5 games i've played lately while still pushing some really nice macro level fidelity.
Then the game seems to be divided into two areas. First is a bit of a third person ant-venture game. You get little quests to go out into the world and complete. Some involve finding things and others have some platforming. Then some others introduce the RTS mechanics before throwing you into the thick of things with some more challenging missions.
This game is enjoyable to play. Its very relaxing while still providing some strategy and a sense of satisfaction when you build up an army and then wipe out the enemy insects. It's also presented in such a way that my kids love to sit with me and watch or tell me what to do or even grab the controls and walk around (they can't manage the RTS stuff).
RTS wise, you have legions or groups of specific type of ant. You can breed / grow these from nests. You can upgrade them etc. You then select a legion with your mouse wheel and tell it where to go to gather, attack, wait etc. Different troops attack in different ways similar to your typical RTS but everything is ant themed.
You can also just try the game. Steam does offer a very decent refund window and under two hours is more than enough time to make your mind up. I was personally not sold after watching a few reviews online, but then saw some positive player feedback and decided to try for myself and discovered i like it.
Some of the early missions are a bit dull though, where you go out and have to find some little white dots. I felt that the game doesn't do a great job at telling you what to look for and the art direction here means that the dots are often difficult to see against the bright sky. I do think that some of these early missions have hurt early impressions of an otherwise fun game.
