The driving setup is a little hokey in mm but I love the feel that I'm managing a team/costs/marketing.
What are some of the differences in this game?
it dosent look like you can actually control the car. which makes this game boring to me
Part of the fun in a game like this is creating your team team, designing the livery and all of that.
I also like being able to actually control what sponsors you have and all of that.
The racing in this is definitely better, and with the strategy options as well but it just misses out with the home team creation and of actually being able to see your HQ grow as you expand it, rather than just seeing a slider go from level 2 to level 3.
This one only has visuals.
Pit Crew Management
F1 Manager is TERRIBLE
Motorsport Manager is OK
Contract Negotiations
F1 Manager is BAD
Motorsport Manager is Good
Car Development
F1 Manager is MEDIOCRE (a lot of stuff very hard to understand and counter intuitive)
Motorsport Manager is Good (there is a bit of RNG due to the options you get but its pretty clear what the options will do and what decisions you can have)
Car Setup
F1 Manager is OK (a bit too complicated and counter intuitive)
Motorsport Manager is Good (its a game, you get a fun mini game to play with car set up and its clear how to do it)
To be fair, the problems with both Car Development and Car Setup is mainly that F1 Manager presents the data in confusing ways and does not give very clear explanations on how things work. In theory it could have good mechanics if they were better explained to the player. If Drivers or Engineers would give better feedback for instance.
Car Development in particular immediately suffers because F1 Manager displays different value systems. Some things are developed in % and others in KNewtons. This is immediately confusing. You lack an understanding on how much you are improving each part and how they all compare with each other. Which makes it impossible to make informed decisions. Pretty much everyone goes on line and finds out cornering is king and lets develop cornering and abuse the game. This is not a good system when most players are not able to play with it.
Sponsors
F1 Manager: Do not know yet because I did not finish a season. But I can tell that during season you have much less to do.
Motorsport Manager: You have sponsors to pick during season and need to take care that your team is on objective so you get better sponsors. I have issues with it being too tied up with Driver Marketability but its a clear mechanic. You can understand this quickly and sign drivers with good PR.
All in alll, the thing is Motorsport Manager explains its mechanics in good ways. You understand what is going on and are able to play and make different decisions.
F1 Manager 2023 looks amazing but is pretty terrible in explaining its mechanics. You are constantly being surprised by things not working exactly how they look. And are sometimes left clueless. Like....having no idea what people want to earn when trying to sign them. Or having no idea why your pit crew gets more tired vs what was planned. F1 Manager 2023 just leaves the player in the dark about what is really going on.
I got F1 manager 23 on the cheap, I'm liking it, ya I think I like mm more slightly because of the "own team" and have a bit more say with sponsor management.
I think I'm going to give F1 Manager 24 a run just because of the build your team function.
What about the sponsor is going to be different?
