It's more like "Let's roll for how many mistakes are made at start of session".
But then in the session, things are randomizes who gets it.
I had it a few times, where there are 2 crashes in a race, but when it was my drivers i reloaded and then it were two other drivers. Played around this save a bit, and it was always 2 crashes, but always someone else.
So the crashes seam to be seeded by session load, but who makes the mistake is calculated or maybe just randomised. It isn't always saftycar, that is random also.
That is at least my experiance with almost one season done.
that's not what happened to you since you tried two different drivers but out of interest did you try reloading the session a third time with a different setup?
When you save practice 1, and reload it, even after making it to Q1 or sprint, you can make it better, but you have to write it down to notepad or something. And once you found your 95-99 setup, you can use it from practice 1 savegame onwards and get mor track time, if you like to play it this way.
I didn't. I just carried on. In the race he (Hamilton) had a further 4 crashes, 3 with other drivers and 1 on his own. He had high confidence at the start too.
It's worth mentioning that the mistakes of drivers are scripted before the race, the actual situation they happen in affects the outcome.
Tested this on one-of-a-kind race in Canada.
First run of the race:
Random driver lock-up, crashes into 2 cars in front. Red flag.
Same situation couple laps later. Physical safety car.
One red flag and two more safety cars later, there were only 11 cars able to finish the race.
Out of curiosity I ran the race again with very different results.
Pretty much the same frequency of lock-ups and spins, but no mass crashes causing red flags or even safety cars.
In short it basically means if you save and then load the game you get the same results if you do the same thing you did the last time. Its not "scripted". Its essentially a que, and someone will get the same number if then are in the same place in the que.
In order to overcome this you need to change your tactics and approach for the race. If a driver crashes and it happens again after loading, try changing strategy & race pace settings.
What you want is to change your place in the que so another driver gets the bad RNG.
Yeah the "events" are indeed broken. Its simply because there are not enough options for it and its set to happen far too frequently. I have had the fire twice this season, and the computer failure.
