What to do to make the game "easy"
I don't understand the people who say the game is "easy". No matter which team, no matter what I do, my cars rapidly fall behind in development, and whichever updates I make it only gets worse and worse. I keep researching new parts and manufacturing them at the "normal" rate, and takes quite some time until I can bring them to the race. Is that the problem? To make the game "easy" I should pump in a lot of "rushed" or "emergency" updates? Please help, I'm completely lost here, I'm trying to use real world logic but maybe there's some "game logic" I have yet to understand.

you have to look at the grid rank when developing your car, max the sliders where you need to improve (e.g DRS Delta) and minimise or leave in the middle where you feel you are doing ok (low, medium, high speed corners) that way you get the best possible gains out of your parts, also maybe design 2 of the same part before building that part as to get better gains, at a cost of longer time without developing (might not be possible during 1st season)

Edit: Always put lifespan to minimum when designing parts to gain acceleration (Kind of)

The first iteration of parts I design, if the money is there I always go intense and only 1 engineer, for max expertise gain.
Once I design the 2nd iteration I look at if I still have a competitive car or not. If I have, I'll make a 3rd iteration of a part and then start manufacturing it, if the car isn't competitive I start manufacturing after the 2nd iteration.
The last design you're making that you're gonna start manufacturing, put all your engineers on to finish it as fast as possible with rushing it.

That's one way to have an overpowered car at around Silverstone once all your new parts should be on your car, but there are several other ways too.

The most problematic part of this game is if you dont have a RB or Ferrari engine your acceleration stats are horrible to start and its almost impossible to upgrade to even get you past P10 on the grid in that stat. Which is a pretty vital stat to have.
Developing is helpful when you can get your top speed and acceleration as high as you can get it. I usually switch engines after the first season to either a RB or Ferrari and the development for the car gets a lot easier and more impact full.
Ive done rushed research for most my saves and it doesnt really matter. Mostly have to grind out the first year until you can choose the engine you want

Thanks for the help but yeah, that's more or less what I'm already doing, improving the worst parts of the cars. But the problem is every part of the car rapidly becomes the worst of the grid, and no matter how many updates nor how many progress each update grants, it's always the worst of the grid, 19th in everything. Maybe I should fire the chief designers and aerodynamicists? But that's stupid. Or improving the technical facilities, but that is something I'm already doing, obviously without any meaningful results. The cars are the worst and shall remain the worst, no matter what. It's frustrating. Another frustrating thing on top of that is pit crew exhaustion. I already have fatigue reducing as a permanent program, but without results. They're always exhausted and making mistakes at literally every pit stop, like my cars needed any help to be rock bottom and miles behind every other team. I'm getting very frustrated, I don't want to win easily, and I want the game to be a challenge, but I don't want to be Andrea Moda either, and right now all I feel is anything I do doesn't have any effect. Maybe I should stop playing, the frustration is taking away all the fun, and maybe try coming back in a couple of months. Thanks for the tips, anyway.

Just went for a last race before the inevitable sacking at the end of the season, curious to see if the last upgrade of the year (a new rear wing) would bring some progress. Of course not, the car was still the worst at every parameter. So it was the same as all the previous races, dead last, way off the pace, pit mistakes at every stop, absolutely every stop. Slower with softs than anybody else with hards. Push the tires, save the tires, one-stop strategy, three stop strategy, nothing really matters the end result is always the same. Managing Alfa, only got one decent race, the opener in Bahrain, got a p12 with Bottas (I suspect because nobody had updates at that point). Poor Zhou was dead last at absolutely every race, usually some 30 seconds or more behind the next one, which was usually Bottas. Sorry, this game is not for me, I want to have fun and it's only making me sad and angry. I won't even try playing with Red Bull because the thought of becoming a midfield team by Monaco is too much.

In the opening post you said, that you were "researching" new parts. There is a difference between Research and Design. If you use the Research dialog the improvements are only applied to next season's car parts. Your current car will not benefit from that. To make improvements in the current season, you need to design new parts.

It might be that you did that, but just in case you missed that difference.

Well, you are using one of the worst teams :D

Start with the underfloor and front wing, split the ATR between the two of them, use 1 person and go for intense as that gives maximum experience gain. Use that as a base before working on other parts.

Re. staff, i don't know their staff, but i fired both the Williams staff at the start of season to get reasonably skilled people in the role.
