(in order of importance)
1. Use already degraded parts (40-50%) only for practice. New parts for races.
2. Low engine mode in practice. This will make the degraded practice parts last long enough till the race parts degrade enough. And the cycle continues.
3. "Avoid high risk kerbs" and "Drive in clean air" driver orders in practice.
4. Underfuel for races to avoid having to run on high engine mode for half the race, because safety car occured and now you have lots of extra weight on your car. This can backfire tho.
5. Engine cooling stat on your aero parts. Definitely the last thing you should go for, since it takes away from other, way more important aero stats.
Follow this and without any super unlucky crashes you'll only have to buy one new ERS per season.
There's also a regulation change that occurs around July that increases available starting engine parts by 1 for no extra cost. The other teams tend to vote favorably for this change.
Facilities have no effect on your engine.
There's no way to upgrade inherent durability on your 1st season engine. However between season 1 and 2 you can change your engine supplier, each with different advantages and disadvantages.
I have done 3 times the first season one and I always had to get at least 1 extra engine and 1 extra ers
But you shouldn’t need more than 1 extra if you end up needing more maybe you can tune your play style to manage them better
