Hot tyres alert
Hey guys

Stupid question but what do you do when tyres get too hot ?

Ok i know we can work on colling brakes (and i do) but that is more of a long term solution my question is more how to handle the situation of tyres being too hot.

First correct me if wrong but hot tyres means much increased risk of accident (lock tyres).

So what in concrete terms can we do ?

Decrease pace ?
protect tyres with Avoid high risk kerbs/ drive in clean air options ?

Of course these two will kill our performance. So most of the time personally i do nothing but wonder what could be a good reaction.

Reduce pace to light for a lap (don't go conserve unless there's a yellow flag), hot tyres decrease their longevity (high degradation), this will destroy your pit strategy or risk of puncture/lock-up.

I usually don't use "avoid high risk kerbs" because honestly I'm not sure it really does anything, maybe someone tested this in depth?

drive in clean air option 'should' also help

Hot tyres also decrease your laptime. Avoid high kerbs reduces wear on your components. So it's a good thing to use if you know you won't get points.

I set a strategy that will get me to the end of the race on maximum pace from start to finish. I ignore temperatures completely. I managed 2 race wins, a dozen podiums and 3rd in the standings by the end of the first season with Mercedes this way. I stopped development on that car quite early too.

As far as yellow flags, the set pace/burn doesn't matter, they'll use a lower setting regardless of what you have set.
