Ropes from workbench?
There are so many work benches, can one of them create ropes?
Or do I always have to do it myself?

Rope is one of the items which can be crafted without a workbench. Simply press tab to bring up the crafting tab and select either the parachute icon (basic) or 4 squares icon (all) and you'll see the option to craft rope there. It only takes 2 Fiber to craft a rope.

1: No work benches for crafting rope
2: yes you have to make them on your person

It's actually a good thing for new players cause you can que them up and craft while you go do what ever you do. It's xp on the fly sorta speak.
