Alright guys i had a ps3 controller which is now dead and i want to know if Xbox 1 controller will work?

Yes, Xbox controllers tend to work with most controller-compatible games on PC.

what do you mean by "a regular controller" :P It has to support XInput to be recognized in Assault Horizon, IIRC

Redragon appears to make controllers that have two input methods: Xinput and Dinput (DirectInput). In order for their controllers to work with Assault Horizon, you need to switch the controller's input method to Xinput *before* you open Assault Horizon. I believe only Xinput controllers work natively in Assault Horizon.

I've been using an Xbox One controller for this on PC for a few years now. Works just fine like how I played on the consoles. I have the second gen Xbox One controller with the built in bluetooth as the original first Xbox One controllers had a propriety wireless connection.
