If restarting the game and replaying the mission from the beginning is not enough to fix the problem, I think you should check you videocard drivers. If they are up to date and installed correctly, then you can try to temporarily downgrade to an older version of drivers.
As far as I can tell (and I've tried many times in previous situations where that's been recommended), there's no practical way of doing that. It seems to require completely uninstalling my drivers, downloading the old ones, reinstalling them, restarting, and repeating this process every time for every version I want to try, and then of course I'd have to re-do that every time I want to play something that isn't best run on obsolete versions of my drivers.
Some googling suggests that the best course of action is to run it in compatability mode, but that just makes the game crash on startup.
I don't have any particular hope that this is going to be fixed, so I guess the game just doesn't work anymore.
Thanks this also fixed my black screen on that mission (after AC-130 on ruins). All I did was locate the .exe in the game install file, right-click -> properties, then select Compatibility mode for window 7 instead of 8 ( I am using window 10 ). Run the game from Steam again to install Microsoft VC and viola.
Thanks! that's a big help to my same situation. but it's arguable that I try to get lower at first during landing may work too. Maybe it's just a control lost so some compensation could help. thx again!
