Game not starting
The game doesn't seem to work from the steam launcher, when I went to the exe directly it seems to say that I am missing "OpenAL32.dll" did the installer miss this? I've been searching online and people have posted links to dead websites that apparently used to have this dll to download but I feel if this is required it should just come from the installer no?

Hello, there is a copy of it in the game's folder. Path to it: Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition/_CommonRedist. If it does not install, try running it as admin.

The "_CommonRedist" folder doesn't seem to be present in that folder sadly. Running it as admin causes the same error

My game wont even start up (worked few months ago just fine) I reinstalled AL i think didnt move the instal location just clicked instal and it said it installed (followed bunch of steps that your suppose to do to possibly fix and that is one of them) :(

OOOOOOOOOO just did research and ya the issues of game not working is the stupid uneeded updates that shouldnt have been done or least required and break the game *clap clap* hopefully least no more updates will ever be made (granted updates are I suppose partly steam fault, but I think developers should just make their updates into optional off site patches or just let modders do what modders do which is do a massively better job and hey for free).

Hey, if anyone comes across this post in the future - I managed to fix it, it turns out that OpenAL is an audio library that you can freely download from their site here - https://www.openal.org/

Yep. Had the same issue here, downloaded the link and installed the file in 5 seconds. Hearing the game starting with sound was a joy.

Julius I tried following your intructions, but I could not find my Baldur's Gate 1 or 11 folders when I was searching. It is installed somewhere on my pc, but I cannot find the folders on either of my hard drives. This is so frustrating as the games were working fine awhile back, and I have not been able to get either of them to launch for ages now :(

They are my 2 of my all-time favourite games as well, and this problem seemed to all start when I bought the expansion pack. Please can someone help?

The main folders should be in your Steam folder -> common -> steamapps

Go into the Steam app, right-click the app, Local Files - overview - and it'll open your main game folder.

The folders with saves and portraits should be in Documents. And there is a chance you might have different Document folders on different drives. Check out https://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/65867/missing-save-files

I have the same problem. I followed the first link from Julius and tried to deactivate DEP for the "baldur.exe".
I got the message, that this file has to have activated DEP and Win10 didn't let me change this :(

I also already tried to repair the files and so on... nothing seems to help.

Install (re-install) OpenAL, update graphics drivers. Put the openal dll in the main BG:EE folder.
Bubelbu Mar 10, 2021 @ 12:30pm
So I did all this:
-Reinstall BG:EE
-Reinstall openal
-copied the openal32.dll in the same directory where the baldur.exe is
-updatet my graphics driver
-in between I restartet the PC

-> tried to start BG .... nothing... not even an error message.
The "start" button in steam turns blue. Something is loaded but the the button gets green again and nothing happens further.

I also deactivated the Dragonspear DLC - then surprisingly an error message occured - at least!
Something with TotalBufferDataSize in Line 886 of alc.c

I'm coming to an end of my frustration tolerance...

My System:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 6
Graphics: GeForce RTX2060
RAM: 40GB

...it should be enough.

I also got a .MDMP file as a kind of crash-report ... what should i do with this?

Soooo... anyone any other ideas?
