If you're new to BG and just want to experience the original game without a lot of hassle, the EE is the way to go.
These days, the ancient original games (which are more than 24 years old) only work somewhat after installing tons of modifications.
The enhanced editions apply lots of updates to make the games work on modern OS and somewhat enhanced graphics appearance. They have fixed hundreds if not thousands of bugs in the original games, a little bit of restored content (but otherwise the original story is unchanged) - and if some hardcore fans of the originals are not content with such changes that doesn't mean the changes are wrong. There are also a few new companions, the Siege of Dragonspear expansion as DLC, updated manuals (--> https://files.beamdog.com ).
Overall, getting the EEs to run on a modern computer will be much more easy and convenient, too.
