Viconia constantly miscasts basic spells in SoD, is this a bug?

Had Viconia in my party for the whole of the vanilla campaign, never miscast once. But in SoD, while using the same gear she always had, she constantly fails to cast pretty much anything. What is going on?

Hm, that's a tough one. :-)

A)
Well, I assume you are not talking about "miscast", the 3rd level priest spell, but you rather mean your NPC Jaheira fails at successfully casting a spell / enchantement.

1)
Surely you realize enemies you cast spells on get a saving throw, depending on the kind of spell you use. And in SoD enemies could be of higher levels, so are generally better at resisting. But I guess you know that and you are talking about something else.

2)
Casting usually comes to an abrupt end when being hit by an enemy. Have you tried moving your Jaheira more to the back of the lines ? And you know for sure that moving is an auto-spell abort as well.

B)
You are talking about failing "constantly", does that maybe mean like: "all the time" ? Well, neither of the above possibilities would explain the "always" case. Now for that there are not so many possible explanations.

1)
It could be possible your Jaheira is under a spell or curse that brought "deafness" to her. The effect is permanent. You can find it on her character record sheet (the one with the XP listed). As you can imagine incantating spells / enchantments without hearing capability is not so easy. 50% chance for failure at every cast attempt, if memory serves. Luckily deafness is easily removed by "dispel magic" or "cure disease".

2)
If all of that is not resolving your issue you could be in somewhat of a problem here. Would you please check, if on Jaheira's character potrait there's a red itinerary symbol ? On the character record sheet you should find the explanation for all symbols. This one would be called: "spell failure". Now, reports of PERMANENT "spell failure" are scarce, but not unheard of. I will try to help you out should this turn out to be your problem. Talk to me again.

Yeah I meant failing to cast rather than having the miscast magic debuff. It was happening even with stuff that doesn't target enemies, I have Viconia set up as a dedicated healer so it was all area casts like Bless and friendly targets like Cure Minor/Medium/Serious Wounds.

Not using any mods and yeah I checked for any debuffs.

It seems to have stopped happening even though I did nothing to fix it so I have no idea, some kind of bugged RNG that resolved itself maybe?
