At the time I played that expansion, the inventory of unavailable companions was transferred into the same chest at Ducal Palace, but not their equipped items. So, Coran/Kagain/Branwen/Yeslick, for example, left with their equipment. I understand that you would prefer the option to leave them naked somewhere down in Korlasz Crypt - and then that's an option for meta-gamers. Keep in mind that it's just an expansion. You will meet new companions, find new equipment, and you will lose allmost all items at the beginning of BG2 again - and additionally have that game reset all story companions to defaults.
The original story companions in BG1 don't offer anything else. A brief introduction, at most a brief task and those 4th wall breaking one-liners when you select a companion. This is what she says in SOD:
Safana: You want me?
Safana: Sweatheart?
Safana: Mmmm?
Safana: Your need?
Safana: Yes?
Safana: Hey there.
Safana: I avoid temptation unless I can't resist.
Safana: It's a pirate life for me.
Safana: Everyone focuses on my looks. I feel so two-dimensional at times.
Safana: Maybe I was born with it, maybe it's... nope. I was born with it.
Anything beyond that would need to happen within player's head.
A few other companions at least say something funny. One of my favorite pieces from SOD is Dynaheir pulling her own leg about her funny messed up Shakespeare-English in the games.
If you had Yeslick and Branwen at the end of BG:EE, you'll find them in your party at the start of SoD. However, at the end of the starting dungeon of SoD you'll have to take their items away, because they won't be automatically transferred - you know, characters would like to take all the shiny stuff with them, aye?
Ok Imoen stuff is supposedly in a chest once I pass the dungeon. But...
... does this means that (aside from a little spoiler i might get from asking) at the end of the dungeon something happens that takes the equipped equipement of our party away? Should I put my weapons and gear in the inventory before going forward?
Or does ALL the inventory from my party gets taken away?
I know I sound kind of confussing, I AM confused XD
I also know that I should play and have fun. But what my characters own, are things that kind of like have a special meaning to me because of the work involved in getting them.
EDIT: don't mind it, I save often so I will see who stay and who doesn't. So I'll just load up a save and get the stuff^^
Some will make you wait more than others.
