Game does not start?

Hi,

I played BGEE 32 hours - last time about a 3 weeks ago. Today I tried to launch it and nothing happens. I click play, steam shows that I am in game for like 3 seconds and it turns back to blue. Nothing else happens. Any ideas?

Nvm, fixed with this file Redist folder. Strange anyway, becuase game was workign before perfectly fine.

May I ask exactly how you fixed it? Starting yesterday, my game crashes on startup every time.

Of course. What worked for me:
1. Go to \Steam\steamapps\common\Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition\Redist
2. Start oalinst in Administration Mode. Just click next next next... I don't remember how much windows there was.Just finish installation of this :)
3. Enjoy game.

That simple and it worked for me. I hope it will also work for you!

There was a Steam update a couple days ago, that may have had something to do with it (There's usually some issues with the game immediately after an update, I don't know why).

The redist solution didn't work on my end, unfortunately. So, obviously, I went and immediately bought both BG 1 and 2 collections on gog.com, which are on sale. Then I modded the hell outta them. Haha :D

Good move! :D I have my BG1 and 2 somewhere on CD, 6 discs for 1st and 5 for 2nd :)

Anyway, BGEE is actually quite nice despite what people are saying.

This "fix" didn't work. Matter of fact the directory structure doesn't even match, but I did find the oalinst.exe and ran it as an administrator. Only one click threw, and it was done.

No change. Any other ideas?

The path to oalinst.exe has changed in the mean time. They're talking about an older version.

How far exactly do you get. Can you get into the game, or crashes it before that.
Has it worked before (2.0 or 1.3?) or is this a new install.

Assuming you're trying to get 2.0 to work, a few things you can check first:

Can you find your baldur.lua file at ...\(My )Documents\Baldur's Gate - Enhanced Edition.
If so, delete it when BGEE is not running. Restart the game to rebuild it.
If not, is your steamapps folder under Program Files?
Is your videodriver up to date.
What exactly do you see when you crash, a white screen? In that case, do you have an ATI card?

Good to hear. Was deleting the baldur.lua then that worked for you in the end, or something else?

Thanks, just ran into this while trying to finish before BG3 launches and was bummed, but this got me through!
