str, dex and con help with save vs breath and save vs death, while Int helps with save vs spell & death, wis helps with save vs polymorph and wandand spell, cha also helps with wand and polymorph.
Hope thats helpful, sorry these other guys didnt help you out more directly. YES there is a manual but it's a DnD manual, very techical and very confusing at time, using number scores and math at every turn, someone who is new to it doesnt always understand.
Flashburn is correct. Though I would add that Gnomes don't get a constitution bonus to saving throw vs Death but get a saving throw vs wands and spells. Halflings and Dwarves get a constitution bonus to all three.
And responses like this are why we gamers get called 'anti-social'.
Answering the OP's question though (in a non-insulting or condescending fashion), the only stat I directly noticed affecting my saves was my DEX (which improves you're armour class by quite a fair bit as you increase it), as for other saves I'll confess to not knowing myself but as a general rule I always found it best to try and keep most of your stats 10 or above where you can (I am sorta basing this off of my 3rd edition knowledge but it seems to have worked so far).
I would never dream of being a jerk off towards such a fine and kindly gentleman such as yourself.
And considering how in my answer I was speaking from my own experience playing the series I'd say my research wasn't too bad considering mine didn't come with a self-rightous belittling attached (unlike yours).
You might wanna consider being a little less Lawful and a little more Good (people will like you for it).
Now, shake virtual hands and enjoy your game....
I appologise for the exchange there but to be fair, he was being somewhat out of line for no good reason.
