Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition

Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition

Does Wis, Int, or Cha affect saving throws or related skills?
I played D&D vs 1 and 2 when I was a wee lad and seem to remember those stats affected my saving throws in some way, but I may be wrong since that was like 15 yrs ago. Other than increasing memorized spells or learning faster, is there a reason to keep them at a specific threshold? Does anyone have a suggestion of minimal values I should aim to keep? I'll be playing as either a Kensai, Archer, Monk, or maybe Dragon Disciple. Though I'd like to make an alt magic user of some sort as well.

ofcourse they do. it depends on what class you want to play as to what values u want to put points in. For example, you would not boost strength if your a wizard, would you??? You know there is a manual for this game dude, don't be a lazy arsey and look it up yourself. At least attempt to find the answer on your own cause its out there, its a very basic question. Makes me sick to see crap questions like this, it's like "are people really that lazy and stupid that they can't use the internet at all, they sure use it for a quick fix though???"
Forums are for multiple discussions which include asking questions. OP should feel free to ask questions that BG players may be able to answer. He did nothing wrong.
agreed. he did nothing wrong.
the manual doesnt out right tell you what each does, but yes wis, int and cha effect saving throws, as well as con, dex and str

str, dex and con help with save vs breath and save vs death, while Int helps with save vs spell & death, wis helps with save vs polymorph and wandand spell, cha also helps with wand and polymorph.

Hope thats helpful, sorry these other guys didnt help you out more directly. YES there is a manual but it's a DnD manual, very techical and very confusing at time, using number scores and math at every turn, someone who is new to it doesnt always understand.

Uhh, actually Hikoh, that's wrong.

Your saving throws are determined by what class you are and also by your race, in the case of the midget races. Dwarves, Gnomes, and Halflings get a bonus to all of their saving throws based on their CON score, up to a -5 bonus at 18+ CON.

Intelligence is a traditional fighter-type dump stat (unless you're fighting Illithids) because it does absolutely nothing for them except raise their Lore score per level, which is also raised by 1/level anyway. On the other hand, mages and bards need high INT if they want to have good chances at copying scrolls to their spellbook. 18+, no exceptions. It also determines how many spells per level they can have in their spellbook.

Intelligence and Wisdom also increase Lore, which means if you examine an item, you'll be able to identify it automatically if your Lore is high enough. INT and WIS start giving these Lore bonuses when they are 15+ and their bonuses stack together. On the other hand, if you have low INT and/or WIS, their penalties will also stack. Fighters gain 1 Lore/level; Mages and Thieves get 3/level; and Bards get a whopping 10/level.

Wisdom is essential to a good cleric or druid. If their wisdom is high, they'll be able to memorize more spells. Also, if you plan on using any of the Wish spells later in BG2EE, a mage needs high WIS to keep from getting screwed over by his wishes.

Charisma is kind of important, but if yours is low, you can just have someone with high CHA be the leader. The Charisma of the leader usually affects how good side-quest rewards are and if some NPCs will even join your party or not. It also has an effect on the party's morale. A leader with low CHA will usually have panicked comrades if their health drops too low. On the other hand, a leader with high CHA's companions will be more stouthearted, able to take more damage if they don't die first before running for their lives.

This website says everything I just did except better:

Flashburn is correct. Though I would add that Gnomes don't get a constitution bonus to saving throw vs Death but get a saving throw vs wands and spells. Halflings and Dwarves get a constitution bonus to all three.
thanks everyone. I'm gonna roll a midget something, just not sure what yet :)
Gnomes fighter/illusionnists are fairly efficient and resilient, more than other fighter/mage combinations if you get an 18 constitution. If you want to make the most of this constitution Dwarves can make good Fighter/clerics with an astounding ability to tank, while halflings make better support fighter/thieves (though maybe not as efficient a backstabber as a dual classed human Fighter 6/Thief 9)
I didn't think that was a stupid question, because if you search online some people say that WIS affects your saving throws in D&D games, which includes BG. But in BG that's NOT TRUE! I experimented with both high and low WIS and the outcome was completely the same.

And responses like this are why we gamers get called 'anti-social'.

Answering the OP's question though (in a non-insulting or condescending fashion), the only stat I directly noticed affecting my saves was my DEX (which improves you're armour class by quite a fair bit as you increase it), as for other saves I'll confess to not knowing myself but as a general rule I always found it best to try and keep most of your stats 10 or above where you can (I am sorta basing this off of my 3rd edition knowledge but it seems to have worked so far).
Don't be a jerk off, know your role son. Responses like yours and just like the op statement concludes that you both did not bother to do your research. Smarten up the both of ya.

I would never dream of being a jerk off towards such a fine and kindly gentleman such as yourself.

And considering how in my answer I was speaking from my own experience playing the series I'd say my research wasn't too bad considering mine didn't come with a self-rightous belittling attached (unlike yours).

You might wanna consider being a little less Lawful and a little more Good (people will like you for it).
I like jerking off, but I will not do it on someone else. There are no stupid questions and judging someone on one remark is not nice, and also pretty STUPID!
Now, shake virtual hands and enjoy your game....
sure whatever you goofs say......

I appologise for the exchange there but to be fair, he was being somewhat out of line for no good reason.
No reasons for apologies on either side, I think. It's an open forum and each is entitled to their own opinion. But if you're judging or belittling others for asking something politely, most people will consider you a jerk and won't heed anything you write, because you will sound like a twelve year old with major issues.
