Does it look as good as BG2 or 'TuTu'?
That is the main question I have about this game.

A few years back, I re-played Baldur's Gate using the 'TuTu' mod.
For those who don't know, it allows you to play Baldur's Gate 1 with the Baldur's Gate 2 'engine'.
It looks great, and if I remember correctly there is also a High-Resolution mod.

So, does the Enhanced Edition look as good as 'TuTu'?
Also, which engine does it use?

It uses BG2 engine like TuTu but with some improvements. The graphics look a bit better because of image scaling algorithm that adds sharpness when you zoom in.
pagb666 21 stycznia 2013 o 12:33
IMHO it looks worse
Atech66 21 stycznia 2013 o 12:40
the original you could grab a free mod that did the same thing and it goes on sale all the time on other sites for 7.99 it includes Icewindale 1 and 2 etc. imo you'd be better off getting Divine Divinity or Drakensang for the money. both great games that look alot better. That being said i have every classic D&D game and have played them many times they are a must play for any RPG enthusiast and many games you have played since you will see where the idea's sprang from.

No, it looks better. There's also a scale UI toggle in the .ini file. Not sure if they added it to the in-game options yet, but it's there.

It looks quite a bit better than modded BG2. Textures are smoother, you can zoom in, scrolling and controlling characters is MUCH smoother, the interface and text is vastly improved on high res widescreen monitors.

Not sure why there is so much negativity here.

its not negativity so much as all these fixed were already available for free from different sites.. the game really seems like they are charging for stuff that had already been done. Hi res etc. has been available for years and from what im reading im better off.. my version never crashed or had quest problems. its kind of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ to charge 20 bucks for this.. thats just honesty. if it was 9.99 maybe.. but 20 bucks? its worth it to those that are willing to pay it.. considering Gamestop had then entire D&D collection for 7.99 not long ago (6 games) its not to me. The modded version does not look bad at all i run it on 32" and it looks quite good.

it must suck to have 10 dollars mean so much in your life
i spend that much on my two daily energy drinks and bottle of water.

it is worth FAR more than 10 bucks for someone to gather all the mods together into one place like they have done here. i am pretty far from well off, but 10 bucks is 40 minutes of work at my job. it would take me WAY longer than 40 minutes to find and download all the mods they added to this enhanced version

There is budgeting software on steam if you need it. LOL

Definetly agree on your point there, 10bucks must be a life changer for some people! ^^
EnderWツ 21 stycznia 2013 o 22:14
right, because they only get the 20 bucks from the first buyer^^
people like you are the reason why you now pay twice as much for modern games (because half the content is ripped out into DLCs) while the games are actually much worse, much less lovely made, no love for details, full of bugs, .........
The reason such things work is because of you and you deprive every halfway smart person along with you
And to arguement against a person with the fact that he may is not the richest shows quite alot (though his reason may just be that its not worth it (or would you pay 20 bucks for tap water in a fast food restaurant because its not much money for you?))

You are quite literally talking out of your ass.

It isn't about the money, but the fact that you are paying a company for content they had no hand in creating and for "fixes" that were already done and implemented a lot better by Modders.
They even removed certain content like the movies from the game or replaced them with a worse version.

Regarding "downloading all the Mods".
All you need to download to make a Modded version better than this "Enchanted Edition" is literally only the Baldur's Gate Trilogy and nothing else: http://www.shsforums.net/files/file/54-baldurs-gate-trilogy-weidu-115/
While BGT-WeiDU remains mostly faithful to the original Baldur's Gate and Tales of the Sword Coast, a number of new features have been introduced to satisfy the above goals.Baldur's Gate using the Baldur's Gate II engine: BGT-WeiDU is a modification installed on Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal. Therefore, the story of Baldur's Gate can be experienced with the updated graphics, better resolution, and interface improvements present in Baldur's Gate II.

Bug fixes: BGT-WeiDU includes an internal fixpack that addresses a significant number of bugs that remained in Baldur's Gate and Tales of the Sword Coast. A technical list of fixes can be found in the installation package.

Continuity from Baldur's Gate into Shadows of Amn: BGT-WeiDU uses a dynamic system to transfer players from the end of Baldur's Gate to Shadows of Amn. A cover story is used, in which the player talks to Belt after Sarevok is defeated, and NPCs are conditionally imported into Shadows of Amn depending on what fate you led them to experience in Baldur's Gate.

Expansive compatibility with other modifications: BGT-WeiDU is compatible with the latest versions of modifications in a mega-modification installation, as well as a large number of other fan-made modifications. This allows the player to expand the world of Baldur's Gate to an enormously rich location to explore. A compatibility list is available in the installation package.

Organised journal entries: BGT-WeiDU utilises a full quest journal system and ensures that all Baldur's Gate journal entries are removed prior to the transition to Shadows of Amn. This prevents clogging up of the journal, which normally makes it hard to find important information in the journal.

Map Notes: The advent of map notes makes it useful for the player to pin their own special locations. BGT-WeiDU comes with a number of map notes already inserted to help the player find particular buildings quickly, instead of running around like crazed chickens into every single house in a particular area.

I love it how some of you people make Modding sound bad or "hard" to justify your purchase of this obvious Cash-In, even though it is the Modding community that did this work for free where Overhaul got most of their Fixes and "improvements" from in the first place.
And if one is willing to look beyond BGT, that they have also introduced complete hour-long Adventures that add to the game with lots of new areas, creatures, spells etc. (which are incompatible with the new version), a thing Overhaul apparently wasn't able to.

For Baldur's Gate for instance: Dark Horizons, Dark Side of the Sword Coast, Northern Tales of the Sword Coast, Secret of Bonehill
Or for Baldur's Gate 2: The Darkest Day, Shadows Over Soubar, Check the Bodies, Tortured Souls, Region of Terror

There's a quite easy to follow Readme on how to install BGT too: http://readme.spellholdstudios.net/BGTReadme.htm

It literally just requires Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2 to be installed and patched to the newest version (GoG Versions would suffice, since they are already patched) and 3GB of space on your HDD.

And then these are the amazingly hard steps one has to undertake to install it:
1.Extract BGT1##-Install.rar to your Baldur's Gate II install directory

2.Run Setup-BGT.exe in your Baldur's Gate II install directory and follow the installation prompts

3.Play Baldur's Gate II - click the Baldur's Gate button, then New Game to start Baldur's Gate I

4.After installation, you may want to activate Baldur's Gate and Tales of the Sword Coast music and/or install a custom graphical user interface. Refer to the Post-installation Notes in the package for more details

Wow, that was hard now and probably would've cost you hours of your life and made your brain explode...

You aren't only paying them for work that they had no hand in creating (other than their 3 NPCs), but to play an objectively worse version of the original game with more bugs and less compatibility.

For instance all the people complaining about StartUp crashes or the game not working on their Integrated Intel chipsets?

it probably took you longer to type your above post than it did for me to download and start playing BG:EE from steam. and now i have it with the rest of my games here on steam, reliving the fun i had going through the original back in the day.

do i care that you think i am stupid? no
do i care that you are not happy that myself and others are satisfied playing this game? no

companies buy other companies... it happens all the time.

hostess just went banktrupt and now someone else is going to buy the rights to make and sell twinkies...

should we not buy the new twinkies from the company who buys them and blow up forums about them because this new company had no hand in coming up with the idea for twinkies, the recipe for making twinkies or the packaging of twinkies?

naw, i don't think i will do that. i think i will buy and eat the new "updated" twinkies.

who the hell are you to tell me what to do? how to think? what games to play? who to give my money to?

all the people who spent time modding the OG BG got their payoff back then, when they got to play with their mods and every elses for 14 years. they didn't do it for money. you probably aren't even one of those people who actually modded anything... and if you are. GOOD FOR YOU. i still dont' care and am enjoying my product.

Yep - Dexter is quite right, you know.

Prolly will buy the GoG deal in the near future so I don't need to find my original retail boxes in hopes of getting the scratched and worn discs working again. But modding on BG1 / BG2 is in fact easier than installing some TES: Morrowind beautification mods.

I for one am only buying the EE on Steam when it's at least updated to the latest version and 50% off or better. And only if we have some assurance that BG2 will be done... just to have BG on Steam, mind you. If Steam comes with the GoG-like pack as well, I won't even bother picking up the EE. - Maybe for Android though... they don't make you buy 2 characters for 9 Euro on that platform, and they actually had to put in some effort...
