Right click the shortcut -> Properties -> Compatibility. Make sure you check run as administrator, disable desktop composition and disable desktop visual themes.
White square problem dissapeared :)
I hate got the same exact problem.
I have been trying to change the properties of launch as a.t.virginia suggested, and i even tried to change the compatibility options and run it as vista or even xp
its still not working, and the BG support is not answering to my mails.
any other options ? i really want to start playing :(
The box says a crash occured and that a report has been made, please contact us to support@whatever.com
Same problem here!!! :(
When i star the game i have a white box
Error
Then was an error. A crash report was saved to: .......please contact us to support@baldursgate.com
Symptom: White box in the center of the screen, 2 seconds of music, crash.
Solution:
1. Browse to your Baldur's Gate folder
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition"
2. Find BGEE.exe and right-click drag to your desktop, create shortcut here
3. Right-click the shortcut and go to properties
4. Go to the Compatibility tab at the top
5. Check the box for "Run this program as an administrator"
5. Also check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"
6. Leave as Windows XP (Service Pack 3)
7. Click OK, run game
You might be able to select a different OS on the compatibility mode dropdown... but Windows XP worked fine for me.
wohoo!
Sadly this isn't working for me. It's strange, I've been playing the game for a couple of days now with no problems. Suddenly, today, it presents the same issue as everyone else has been having. Verifying my game cache through steam doesn't come back with any errors, and nothing else has changed about the computer...Kind of screwy.
Huh.
Guys, I love this game...But this build has got some weird ♥♥♥♥ going on.
The "launch Baldur's Gate" spell must have fizzled. Make sure you're reagents are at least 2 feet from your computer. :)
I just downloaded Baldurs Gate II EE, launched the game and it crashes. I have tried running as Administrator, and checked the two boxes in compatibility screen as above.
Here is the error message.

I am currently updating my AMD drivers to see if that is the issue.
Any other suggestions.
Edit:
Still not working. As soon as I run Baldurs.exe the windows crash report comes up.
I have turned off DEP for baldurs.exe file also.
Frustrating as I just purchased the game from steam. Just noticed I posted this in Baldurs Gate EE forum not BGIIEE forum. I have been playing BG1 and it worked fine. I stopped playing a couple of weeks ago. I just tried to reload BG1 and it crashes exactly the same as BGII does. Which is odd as it used to work.
