Here's the procedure: download Scitech GLDirect (it bypasses the f*ckups the devs made on OpenGL path procedures, note this is NOT due to Intel not supporting OpenAL in a faulty way, this is the devs of BGEE being a bunch of idiots!). You can nab it from here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/GLDirect_d381.html
Next, change the BGEE.exe file if you're using windows 7 so it is being launched with admin access and make sure it's on compatibility for Windows XP Service Pack 2 (or 3 if you've got a weird error message).
Finally, go to you Windows folder and go to a folder called Syswow64. From there either copy oalinst into it if it isn't there yet (it's on your steam folder of BGEE in the redist folder). Run it and allow it to install. The reason why you need to run it from Syswow64 is because the moronic devs for BGEE made the game 32bit native. Nothing wrong with that, only tiny problem is that they forgot to modify the graphical plugins for it as well (dll issues).
To anyone that reads this, for the love of whatever high being you believe in, make sure if you did buy BGEE that it is the last time you buy anything from these "developers", they clearly have NO idea what they're doing.
I sincerely hope this information will help people out there that have the same problem.
It works fine for my kids.
And it works fine for the thousands who have given it Very Positive reviews.
With those kinds of numbers successfully using this program, one has to wonder what kind of toaster you're running this on.
Just saying.
But I use: Windows 7 64 bit professional with:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700K CPU @ 4.00 Ghz
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 (with newest driver)
32 GB RAM
SSD 1 TB Harddisc
Soooo it should work I tried everything even reinstalling all VC++ and OpenAL and every possible thing. Now I wait for the developers to help the issue since I want to play the game and the old toaster PC is like 15 years ago in garbage bin and I had many since.
@XardasKSP - Please, don't necro old threads. As for the issue itself, we now have the Troubleshooting FAQ - https://beamdog.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/sections/201474893-Troubleshooting-Solutions, especially https://beamdog.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/206729933-Windows-My-Game-Won-t-Launch-Or-Is-Crashing-On-Launch.
If all steps provided in the Troubleshooting guide don't help you, contact our support - support@beamdog.com.
I hope you can resolve your issue and enjoy the game. Also if you enjoy Baldur's Gate I strongly recommend you try Pillars of Eternity, an ace game and excellent oldschool RPG.
But I would really want to remind myself of the old games.... without having to "downgrade" to windows 8.1 or 10 since someone who had a "stubborn" PC (with a differnet game but same problem, strangely enough Oblivion works perfect for me) solved it in the end by making a new windows.
BTW any idea if its possible somehow to uninstall evey single dll windows is using and then install the stuff once again? Cause clearly repairing VC++, removing and installing a new, reinstalling OpenAL etc. etc. doesn`t work so maybe the only way is to remove everything a start again with fresh Windows 7 Pro.
And if this doesn`t work then it have to be the game and then developers have to try help for real. But maybe it will work maybe when the game asked first time for missing openall32.dll + some other dlls I should have installed oalinst at once not download the dll from the net and put it in the folders win32 & SySWoW64..... but usually I helped such problems with old games by doing stuff like that and it worked.
Now I can`t find all those dlls game asked for and that I installed separatedly while I maybe should install oalinst at once in the 64 folder. And now maybe dlls are confusing eachother or something. This is my theory but I dunno what to delete without having to format Windows 7 Pro.
Hell I will reinstall a new windows (and download all the games once more + polish texts to half of them that did not have them) and format the PC if it will help (can`t sleep well thinking about my PC pwning me with the game "stubbornly" not working :D ) but I expect help from developer if it doesn`t since then its really something with the game.
The problem like I mentioned in my original post is that this enchanced edition was fairly botched to begin with. A lot of the old system resources were used causing numerous issues for a lot of people with certain configurations. Ironically enough I managed to fix everything by playing the game on Linux with a VM running the game.
Also if you got the option, upgrade to Windows 10, it's a fairly good OS that seems to handle older DLL injections just fine.
And play the classic Planescape Torment first, it's still the most compelling story ever told in any RPG to date, you'll love the experience, I promise!
But I wanted to play all the classics again bought almost all (not Planescape since I discovered stuff is not working) and wanted to relive the experience before going on with Pillars with all dlc, new Torment, Tyranny, Wasteland 2. BTW all old fallouts work perfect on my PC....
I will soon try to format my PC and reinstall windows since I just have to make it work. I don`t want windows 10 I don`t like those tiles and the way windows look. Windows 7 is the last one with classic look :D
