EDIT: Added emphasis to the word exploit. This was not standard game behavior, this was a manipulation of NPC Vai's scripting and not in the spirit of the game.
Chill on the vitriol. She was only ever intended to buy scalps, that's why she won't talk to you unless you're carrying one. It was an accident that she used to also buy any items with gold values so long as they had the prefix "MISC" in their item tag for the game (this is a coding thing that players would never have even seen anyway). That meant a few types of gems, the wyvern skulls, the idol of Kozah and so on. Usually these were just quest items anyway. You lose 50 gold from not being able to sell the idol (which is more fun to give to Ulcaster anyway), 500 gold for Balduran's Butter Knife, 1250 from the gem in Durlag's, and 250 for the lock of succubus hair.
Fixing this bug cost you 2000 gold over the course of the entire game. Unless you opt to sell quest items instead of earning XP, then you lost 2050 gold. Of course, you could have been farming Wyvern skulls (but if you're doing that you've nothing better to do and already beat the whole game).
The Winter Wolf Pelts can ALWAYS be sold to the guy in Nashkell for 500 gold.
The first wyvern skull nets you 2000 gold from the temple. Subsequent ones are 500 gold a piece to most vendors, and really you only loot probably 5 or 6 in the whole game I think?
Money in Baldur's Gate will never be an issue. You will end up with enough gold to buy everything you could ever want for everyone in your party.
then you just have nothing better to do
so yes iv cleared the mines, got the little kid that says yo she is at the inn. nope. she is not.
Maybe she hates you.
