Reveal all the black on the map?
Before I buy this and BG2:EE, I wanted to see if there's a mod or anything that can reveal all of the map to you. I hate how there are pitch black areas all over until you walk there. My OCD kicks in and I have to uncover everything. Also, I don't get enjoy the full beauty of the map when parts of it are black.

To clarify, I'm not trying to see all enemies and NPCs. That would ruin the game for me. I just want all of the map to only be fogged out- not pitch black. Thanks for any help.

That ruins the exploration of the game though, you know?

If you can see ALL of the map, youre going to be able to see key areas where quests and such are completed or other areas of interest, rather than actually going out and looking for them.

This is a great RPG dude, like maybe the best of all time after BG2. Nothing else comes close to these except for a couple other titles in the same mold (Fallout1+2/Planescape:Torment).

Not buying it for that reason alone would be a huge disservice to yourself

As Krimsonk already said, a part of this games charm comes from the discovery and especially in dungeons the uncovering of the map would take away from the secrets. However, if you want to play the game this way there is a way to uncover the map, by activating the console and inputting the command to remove the black layer.

Instructions for this can be found here:

Enable debug mode,

CLUAConsole:CreateItem:("SCRL1D", 50)

It's the spell Clairvoyance. Your spellcaster can cast if if you memorize the spell, or you can buy a stack of the scrolls, or you can use the cheat code to spawn yourself a stack of fifty of them as above.

If you are using the debug mode anyway might as well just use C:ExploreArea()

Yeah... or you can give yourself a whole stack of the scrolls and not have to use the console for the rest of the game. Personal preference there.

If you ulock all the black from the map you are or more likely to miss something as you don't know if you been there or not. Just sayin... To others: You still really only discover when you have line of sight in this game.

This is very true. Some things, like Baeloth, only trigger once you're close enough to them. Still, if you don't like the bits of black on the map you can wipe them out and supplement your lack of exploration with a walkthrough.

However, I will also say this: One way that I earned loads of experience without trying very hard was by walking my party to uncover every inch of every map and fighting everything I found.

Granted, there is a 161,000 XP cap in BG1, but I installed a mod to remove it. If I'm still completing quests, I wanted credit. Gives me a tiny head start when I export to BG2.

I understand the whole discovery aspect, but I've played BG1, BG2, IWD 1&2, and all he NWN games. I'm just revisiting these due to EE, so I'm not actually missing out on discovery or anything. I just want to see this beautiful map and artwork in 1080p at all times.

I'm running through all the old Infinity Engine games and games in the same vein (FO 1&2) to get ready for this new wave of cRPGs being released through Kickstarter with the king of them all being Pillars of Enternity by Obsidian.
