I know in BG2 you can use one to warp to a secret area. is there a use for them in BG! or do i just sell them?

There doesn't seem to be any use for them except to sell in bg. I do know that in bg2 there's a portal (like you mentioned) and a couple recipes but none of them crossover to the first game.

However, there is a thieve's guild quest that involves stealing one but other than that I dont know of any use for them.

On a related note, you should always keep one Angelic Ring and Sphene Gem with you. You'll understand once you reach Baldur's Gate.
