Dual Class Question
This is my first time playing Baldur's Gate in any form, and I'm dual classing a kensai -> thief and I'm a little unclear about weapon proficiency.

Specifically, I want to grand master (5 pips) katana, but I put points in long sword not realizing that thief only goes up to 3 pips, so I'm wondering if this applies to dualing into thief as well?

Would I have had to put all 5 pips into a proficiency as a kensai prior to dualing into thief, or will I still be able to achieve grand mastery after dual classing, or reactivating kensai?

Thanks in advance.

You can add more proficiency points after you regain your Kensai abilities. But don't put points into weapons you took as a Kensai while only your thief skills are active, they will be lost.

Awesome, thank you. I did know not to put redundant points, but I wasn't sure if I'd be locked out of grand mastery afterwards.

So, followup question(s): Is there only one katana +1 in the game or are there more enchanted katanas? The wikia says you can find Katana +2 in BG:EE but doesn't say where, unless they're referring to BG:EE2...

Thardek in the Black Pits sells it at a certain point. But its not available in the main game otherwise. You can always use the console to create it.

C:CreateItem("sw1h55")

Otherwise the best Katana is a +1. If you are going to go with the katana as a weapon its worth keeping in mind that killing Kahrk should give you one. From what I recall there is just the one +1 katana in the game (though unlike most weapons katanas won't break so just having normal katanas isn't as big of a deal as it could be).
