How do I disarm a trap?

I've detected traps with Montaron (who is dual class thief/fighter) but I see no way to disarm the trap. I see a red square of the trap, but no option to disarm it. If I click Thieving there is nothing, no cursor or whatever to disarm.

What do I do?

After you detect the trap and click on the thieving icon (the mask), placing your cursor over the trap should change it to something resembling a bear trap, and the detected trap should change from red to green.

I detected the trap (red box thingy) and clicked the thieving icon. My cursor didn't change when clicking on thieving, and when I moved it over the trap, nothing, no cursor change, no disarm option, nothing.

Is this something I shouldn't have at level 2?

Did you give Montaron better armor? If you did he will be able to detect a trap, but he won't be able to disarm it.

Ah yes, I didn't think of that. You can still detect traps in armor heavier than studded leather, but can't disarm them. You also can't pick locks, pick pockets, or use stealth.

I probably shouldn't be posting at 3 in the morning, can't think straight.

Shadow Thieve's Armour is the best a thief can wear (in BG1, and I haven't found better since I bought it in Beregost) and therefore the heaviest your fighter can wear while disarming traps. You'll have to take off your armour and weapons to disarm traps.
